i had a custom build desktop from ibuypower has a samsung 990 pro 4tb gen 4 for the primary drive could i swap out with a wd sn8100 4tb with operating system already on the primary drive what would i have to do to swap the operating system to the new gen 5 drive ? or better off leaving the primary drive in the gen 5 slot 1 and put the new wd sn8100 in the slot 3 ? the new wd sn8100 nvme drive wasnt available at the time of the build . i dont understand what the guys on you tube are saying about lanes putting the m2 in the number 3 slot would it still be capable of the high speeds its supposed to have 14k +
it has a msi rtx5080 for gpu 64 gb gen dram as well .

all is on the manuals. z890 has only 1 port to be use, M2_1. if you use the others you will drop gpu bandwidth. as manual say. but up to you! all info are on the manuals

There is not much you will see aside windows load faster. Games will not go faster or have any impact what so ever. You can keep as it is. and add another in M2_2
As manual say!
You can if you want clone it and then move to slot1 and once is check you can secure erase the old one.
Personaly keep as it is and add the new one on gen4 will run the same. up to you!

so it wont run at gen 5 speeds in the slot 3 or 4 ? the new wd is a PCI e gen 5 nvme seen it does have read write speeds around 14k mbps in a gen 5 slot so what slot will it be at those speeds ? what does it mean about when m2 3 or m2 4 is enabled pciex gen 5 will run at x8 only ? thats what i dont understand my motherboard is a z890 hero purchased this year with 3 gen 5 slot for m2 .
