LAN Problems with ROG STRIX X870E-E and 9800X3D - Massive Packet Loss

I also opened a case (E24110026198-0001), but maybe someone experiences the same problems. My new X870E-E (newest 0606 BIOS) has problems with the internal LAN adapter. Currently it's connected via Gigabit connection, but that  shouldn't cause problems, at least would be very bad if you would have to connect it via 5 Gb/s LAN. It seems to work normally at first, a speed test maxes out my internet connection (1000/500) and ping also is good in speed test. While playing online games, I got massive packet loss issues (while having jumping ping times), competive games are unplayable. When I try to use WiFi or external USB LAN adapter the problems are gone. So I uninstalled the current ASUS LAN driver V1126.16.1121.2023 and let Windows install a driver, which is way older. But with this old driver everything works fine. I can reproduce the problem, when installing new driver again the packet loss problems reappear.

Does someone have similar problems with the new driver? What could that be?

I woke up this morning and saw your reply, stoked there might be a fix I could try for this. I have the exact same symptoms on the exact same 1Gbps speed. I'll get very inconsistent speeds on a cat8 cable - sometimes it will be stuck at the 10-60Mbps range and other times it will fluctuate between 100-200 or all the way up to 700Mbps or 1Gbps. Interestingly enough, the upload speed is always fine (1Gbps). I'm unsure if this is typical behaviour but my download speed in speed tests will slowly ramp up from zero instead of just instantly jumping to 900 or whatever it's at for that particular time.

Anyways, details aside, I checked the option you mentioned and I had already set it to 1.0Gbps Full Duplex. I remember thinking this fixed it for me about a week ago before the issues came back, hopefully yours sticks for you but I'm still out of luck looking for a fix on this.

Geige, sorry it didn't work for you. I currently have the "Realtek LAN Driver V1126.21.901.2024 for Windows 11.(WHQL)" driver installed and it's been working 100% for the past 2+ weeks. I had swapped over to the "Install_Win11_Win10_10073_08132024_12202024" driver before getting a stable consistent 1Gbps connection and I still had problems. Here are ALL the changes I made to the device settings

Advance EEE - Disabled
EEE Max Support Speed - 1.0 Gbps Full Duplex
Energy Efficient Ethernet - Disabled
Gigabit Lite - Disabled
Green Ethernet - Disabled

In addition I went into the Power Management tab and turned off Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. That's it. Good luck getting yours to work.

welp.. i am at a loss of words. Top notch and expensive mobo, x870e-e, only to be throttle by bad software...  have tried everything in this thread in multiple variations back and forth. Can't seem to get it back to how it was a week ago. When I first upgraded and installed it, the speeds were normal (1gig down and up). Then I decided to download some simple drivers that armory crate offered and then this happened (throttled speeds to 1/3 of what I should be getting; no packet loss)... i pay for 1 gig because I need it for work and other things.. now I'm confined to my crappy laptop. I hope we get an update or something to get this fixed otherwise I'll be jumping ship to another board and potentially another brand : /

This worked for me, the original post is from pete4ka, so please thank them. ---->

I got an update on this - hopefully it will help others too.

So instead of installing V1126.21.901.2024 driver from the motherboard or realtek website i downloaded the V10.73 NDIS driver from the realtek page.

This solved all the issues i was having including the ability to get 5Gbps download speeds.

Apparently these drivers use a different windows API to control the network adapter with the V1126 using NetAdapterCx and the others use NDIS which is the legacy API.

Probably the NetAdapterCx driver is still buggy so i recommend trying the other one.

Here is the link to the Realtek page - although you can also google it if you don't trust links:

Has anyone tried clearing the CMOS?

Since I cant' seem to get back to the original drivers that allowed my mobo to use full 1 gbps speeds, I'm thinking this might be the way back. I'll have to avoid updating until a worthwhile update is released.

Someone here recommended it. I tried it a few times and thought it fixed it initially before learning this problem is very inconsistent to test.

I have an RMA with asus, maybe I'll have luck with a different but same board but I doubt it if all of us are having the same issue.
I wonder if this issue is specifically related to an issue with legacy network adapter compatibility with ASUS hardware or if the problem is a driver issue on Realtek's end?

Just wanted to echo I'm having similar issues on the TUF x870-Plus WiFi. I tried most of the suggested changes here already:
- Driver changes, reset CMOS, and disabled power-saving settings (EEE, etc.) seem to have no/temporary effect

In Win11, ethernet is often reading at 100/100 instead of 1000/1000. Re-plugging the ethernet cable seems to "fix" it temporarily as well, but guess I'll monitor this thread for now and prepare to submit an RMA if the issue continues.

I hope I'm not jinxing it for myself but it appears to finally have been fixed with an RMA. Been working so far for a few days with no issues besides the fact that it came in the mail with some bent pins (thanks Asus). Kind of stupid that this seems to be a common issue and is seemingly only fixable through RMA if you don't have luck with any of the solutions in this thread.

To clarify, I've tried everything here including a new power supply and have had no luck until I RMA'd the board. Best of luck to everyone else.

I've now encountered a second problem with my X870E Crosshair Hero. The store where I bought it recommended I buy an identical motherboard and return the faulty one. I've now done that. If my broken motherboard comes back, I'll sell it at a loss.

Now to the LAN problem. With the newly purchased Hero, I have no problems with the Realtek LAN. No dropouts, no packet loss, and low ping. I don't have any power-saving settings enabled and I have the latest driver. The new motherboard is from September 2024. The old one was from August 2024.

It annoys me that I wasted so much time. I tried drivers, changed settings, read the forum, and I had to disassemble my system. And all because I had a broken motherboard.

I've been using Asus motherboards for over 20 years and have always been satisfied. After these problems, I've lost some of my trust in Asus. But since the new motherboard works perfectly, I assume I was just unlucky.

Did you do a full reinstall of Windows on the new board, or did it just work right away?
