Hello everyone,
I recently built a system with the following configuration:
However, I’m facing an issue where the NVMe SSD is not consistently detected during boot. Sometimes the system boots without any problems, but other times the NVMe drive is not recognized at all, forcing me to restart the system multiple times until it is detected.
I’ve checked that the SSD is properly installed in the M.2 slot and made sure that all firmware and BIOS updates are installed. Despite this, the issue persists.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem, or does anyone have suggestions on how to troubleshoot or resolve this issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Hello @dernacktekaiser
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Could you let us know your current BIOS version and confirm whether you’ve cross-tested both the M.2_1 and M.2_2 slots with the same results?
We recommend updating to the latest BIOS version 0825, clearing CMOS, enabling CSM, and following the steps in [Motherboard] Troubleshooting - Cannot find the hard disk drive or SSD (M.2) after motherboard powers... before checking again.
If the issue persists, kindly provide the following information to help us better understand your situation:
- the brand, model, and installation slots or ports for the CPU, GPU, RAM (including part numbers), SSD/HDD, and PSU.
- are there any extensions or adapters used to connect devices, such as the GPU or SSD?
- the OS version, OS build, as well as the driver and firmware versions of the Crucial T705
- a detailed video recording of the issue.
Suggested steps: Begin recording> Show the PC build and the installation location of the Crucial T705> Clear CMOS> Power on and check the BIOS main page and BOOT settings> Enable CSM without making any other manual adjustments>Save changes, reboot, and confirm the SSD is still not detected > End the recording.
Thank you.

The NVME may be pushed down by the heatsink and lose contact in the M2 socket.
Remove the heatsink and test again.

There was a similar problem with Western Digital NVME's before

Hello @ugcrespo
If you could kindly provide the hardware and software specifications, the situation details, and a video following the template outlined above, it would greatly assist in identifying the issue.

I have the same issue, mainly after the PC was shutdown for some hours (over night). Powercycling or disconnecting the PSU brings back the SSD immediately. So I assume this issue is an initialization problem of the Mainboard/BIOS. It never happens during operation.

Same issue with a similar configuration:
Disconnections occur either under Windows, resulting in a BSOD, or during BIOS boot. After several tests, here are some observations:
Gen 5 mode (M.2 Link Mode set to auto): The temperature rises quickly, easily exceeding 65°C. Additionally, latency issues appear (audio stuttering, freezing, etc.).
Gen 4 mode (M.2 Link Mode forced to GEN4): Disconnections are less frequent, but still persist.
If the EXPO mode is enabled, the issue worsens, making it difficult to boot Windows from the affected drive.
The more the PC is stressed (gaming, benchmarking, etc.), the quicker the BSOD occurs.
