Installed latest Dark Hero BIOS on my Hero Z790

Hey everyone,

I installed the Dark Hero 1602 BIOS on my regular Hero z790 by accident and it worked, however when I try to install the actual Hero latest BIOS 2703. I get a "not a valid BIOS file" error message. I downloaded the file again, put it on a FAT32 USB in the BIOS slot, tried in the BIOS using th EZ too and also BIOS reset button in the back of the computer when the power is on but not booted up.

Any thoughts on what I need to do te get me back to the non-dark BIOS?

Hello @jackwyder

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Based on your description, it appears you were unable to complete the 270 BIOS update through EZ Flash, and it seems the system can no longer boot.
We recommend updating the BIOS again using the USB BIOS FlashBack method, ensuring you’re applying version 2703 for the ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO.
Please use a single-sector USB flash drive in FAT16/32 MBR format and refer to [Motherboard] How to use USB BIOS FlashBack™ for detailed instructions. If the update still cannot be completed or remains fails to boot, you might try a different USB drive for the update.
Alternatively, please consider reaching out to your retailer or ASUS customer support to arrange a repair.

Thank you.

Thank you for the feedback

I was alway able tto boot and into my OS so that was not the issue. I rolled my BIOS back tto the oldest CAP file and still could not get the Hero BIOS on the MB.

I double-check my original purchase and it was infact the Z790 Dark Hero.

DOH!

All is good now.

Thanks
