Instability with I9 14900KF and RAM VENGEANCE 32GB (2x16GB)

Hello,

I need your help because I can't find a solution to my instability problems. Let me tell you about my PC components first:
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI
- Processor: Intel Core i9-14900KF 3.2/6GHz Box
- CPU cooling: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE CAPELLIX XT
- Power supply: Corsair RM White Series RM850 850W 80 Plus Gold Full Modular
- GPU: MSI GeForce RTX 4080 VENTUS 3X E OC 16GB GDDR6X DLSS3
- RAM: VENGEANCE® 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 DRAM 7800MT/S CL36

All of these components were purchased in November 2023.

Well, I've always had crashes and instability in some games, as is usual with 13th and 14th gen Intels.

Since I bought the PC I activated XMP I, to use the RAM at 7800 MTs, but that same day I realized that it was not possible. I managed to find an apparent balance by going down to 7200 MTs and that's how I've been until a few weeks ago.

Even so, during these months of using the PC I have had crashes in games with unreal engine 5, games like Immortals of Aveum (it was impossible for me to play it, crashes after 10 minutes of play) or Banishers (it also gave me quite a few problems when loading the shaders but if I managed to get past that part the rest of the game worked so I could play it). Also in other games like Diablo IV or, recently, in COD Warzone on Xbox Game Pass (only Warzone fails, I have no problems with multiplayer).

Yesterday, I updated the BIOS with the latest update (version 2503) and removed all RAM overclocking (I removed XMP I). That is, F5 in the BIOS to return to factory settings. Now the RAM works at 4800MTs. On the CPU side I made sure that I am using Intel Default Settings, Profile Performance and Intel's Fail Safe. With these settings it should be as stable as possible.

After this I used the TestMem5 software with the Extreme configuration, and it generated an error after approximately 40 minutes, during the first cycle. I have also tried the Absolut configuration, 3 cycles, and it did pass correctly. Then I did another test with the 1usmus v3 configuration, and it failed on cycle 5 (I was planning to leave it for a total of 30 cycles). What does this mean? Is the BIOS configuration still not stable, even with the latest BIOS update and without any type of overclock? Do you think my CPU is broken and I have to process the warranty?

Thank you very much.
Greetings.

CORSAIR Vengeance RGB DDR5 Arbeitsspeicher 48GB (2x24GB) 7000MHZ

Nach dem nächsten Neustart stellen Sie XMP I erneut ein, dann
wenn es laufen würde!

Yes, I did an F5 at the time, I tried to play COD Warzone (this game is a very good testing tool since it crashes if your system has the slightest instability) but it crashed instantly.

Pressing F5 and restoring the factory BIOS does not check the Profile Performance and Intel's Fail Safe CPU options. When I configured them, Warzone no longer crashed instantly. I played 3 games and from then on the crashes started again. That's when I started testing with Memtest5.

Just today I'm trying something new. And it's activating XMP I but lowering the speed to 4800MTs. At the moment I've done the Absolut and 1usmus tests in Memtest5 and now I've passed them without errors. Later I want to try Warzone again and see if from the third game onwards it starts to give me problems or not. I hope I've found stability even at 4800MTs. Then I could continue testing by gradually increasing the RAM speed.

What I want is to rule out that it is a hardware problem with the i9 14900KF.

So your RAM should run at 4800MHz even without XMP.

If you are already using Intel defaults, remove the SVID= "Intel Fail save" (I think that's why XMP ends up at 4800 MHz again) and set SVID Behavior to "Auto".

Then set XMP1 or XMP2 and reboot the PC. This will test the RAM with the new timings.

Note: the Intel CPUs of the 13th and 14th generation only support RAM up to 5600MHz. Anything above that is OC and it's just a matter of luck whether it works.

I have the following settings with my CPU (OK, it's just an i7-13700K):
-Performance Preferences: Intel Default Settings
-Asus MultiCore Enhancement (it might be called something different for you): Disable - Enforce All Limits
-SVID Behavior: AUTO
-CPU Loadline Calibration: AUTO (set Level 3)
-IA TDC Current Limit: Intel's Default

I also have XMP 1 active and it works.

If it works for you, you can keep testing until you get the values you want.

Testing your CPU for a problem is difficult because there is currently no test tool that tells you about it.

You can only test with various other tools:
- Cinebench R23 or R24
- Intel Diagnostic Tool (after the test, PASS should appear)
- y-cruncher
- a game with UnrealEngine 5

If, for example, Cinebench, IntelDiagnosticTool runs smoothly and a game with UnrealEngine5 can be started and played, that is a good indication that your CPU is not damaged yet.

Games with UnrealEngine5 in particular, as these games are the first to really bring the problem to light and make it public, are good testing options.

But in principle, there is currently nothing that clearly tells you whether your CPU is faulty or not with regard to the currently known Intel problems.

Intel Core i7 13700K / AiO Fractal Design Lumen S36 v2 RGB / Asus Rog Strix Z790-F Gaming WIFI / Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR5-5600 64GB (4x 16GB) / Asus TUF RTX 4070 ti OC / 4x Samsung 980 pro 1TB / Seasonic Prime GX 850 W Gold / Fractal Design Meshify 2 Lite RGB Black TG Light Tint / Monitor AOC Q27G2S/EU (WQHD)

Do you think it's better to try without XMP and with the SVID Behavior option on "Auto"?
I've been in Warzone again today and again after the third game the crashes start. I had XMP I active but with the speed at 4800MTs. I'm going to try again with SVID Behavior on "Auto" and removing XMP, let's see what happens.

I still can't find stability in any way. I'm also going to try to test some games with Unreal Engine 5.

just test it.

But without xmp the RAM will also run at 4800 (so it will also run without XMP).

If XMP doesn't work for you, check whether your RAM is in the right slots.

With 2 bars, slots A2 and B2 need to be cleaned.

The fact that you're having crashes in CoD Warzone must be something to do with the CPU. It would be interesting to know what kind of error message appears here.

My daughter has AMD and Warzone often crashed for her in the third game too. There are some reports from other players who have exactly the same problem. It doesn't matter whether it's AMD or Intel.

So it's probably not your CPU and UEFI settings, but something else. If the shader compilation runs smoothly on an unrealEngine5 gsme and you can play, the CPU is probably not the problem.

The fact that the PC goes to 100 degrees when booting is definitely due to your cooling. You should buy something better. You can set SVID behavior to AUTO and leave it as it is. XMP has no influence on it.
