I update BIOS 1704 for my ROG Z790 Dark Hero, lot stable but unable to use XMP at all

update: 26/10/2024
Despite all the tuning and adjustments, my PC still randomly crashes to a black screen; sometimes it lasts for a day, other times it may happen again the next day or after three days. This occurs randomly, whether the PC is idle, under light activity, or during gaming. The worst part is when I'm working on important projects and suddenly, my PC goes black, forcing a restart and causing all my unsaved work to be lost.

recently I posted my issue with Rog Maximus Dark Hero that often crash with intel i9-14900K

Previously, I updated my BIOS to version 1602 Beta (0x12B). Despite my efforts to stabilize it, the system was only stable for a week before it began to crash repeatedly.

I noticed a new BIOS update, version 1704 Beta (0x12B), and proceeded with the update. It has been considerably more stable, but I am unable to modify or use the X.M.P profile. If I switch to X.M.P I, II, or Tweaked, my PC fails to boot and automatically reverts to safe mode, forcing me to disable X.M.P.

Currently, my PC is running without X.M.P at 4000MT/s, although my RAM is a Corsair DOMINATOR® TITANIUM RGB 48GB (2x24GB) DDR5 DRAM capable of 7200MT/s CL36.

To get where you were before in terms of peak boost, you'll need to be able to undervolt the CPU heavily. Unfortunately, this is just a trait of the new behaviour. Preferred core boost is harder to achieve.

Although I'm not sure why you're complaining about 57 multiplier and 50c, those conditions seem preferable.

Because it is now supposed to run like a normal 14900K and not as a KS should. And also because the clock headroom is unused when the CPU hits 50c in gaming, when before it was calmly sitting at x59 and sometimes x60. Seems like i have to spend a day tuning the chip because of the update. It is sad to see, especially when it was working flawlessly before the update.

Hello, first of all thank you for your messages and the information is interesting to read. What do you recommend? update to BIOS version 1704 or stay on the old BIOS version 1602 ? I prefer performance....

Only you can answer that. The changes are made in light of the situation concerning the longevity of the CPU. If you'd prefer to stay on the older microcode to preserve performance, you'll need to ask yourself that question
