I need help installing the Hyper M.2 Card on my Maximus z790 Hero - I'm totally lost.

Hey there. I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. I'm new to this and have spent half of the day trying to figure it out.

So I have a new Crucial T700 NVMe 5.0 that I'm trying to install. I find out that my motherboard, the Maximus z790 Hero, only supports 5th generation via the included Hyper M.2 Card. It seemed pretty straightforward, I unscrew the plate, slide it in, reattach the plate, and slot it into the PCIex16(5)_2, right under my graphics card. I boot the computer up and go to Computer Management - but there is no new drive to setup.

After reading a bit I enter my bios and enable Bifurcation from x16 to 8x8. I boot it up again - same problem. I try again and again, switching slots to G4 (the bottom one) and swapping out the Hyper M.2 and my graphics card, but I'm just grasping at straws. I have not tried to enable CSM because I can't figure out how 😓

Would anyone please offer insight into how to get this thing to work?  I feel like a goofball for having blown half of my day on something that seems as if it should be simple.

I'm sorry if I'm missing something basic. I looked at the manual and followed the support FAQ as best as I could. A lot of stuff is seriously over my head. 😵

Hello, @Lili_Chen2005

May I inquire about your current BIOS version?
If you haven't updated to the latest version, kindly consider updating to the most recent release, version 1501, published on October 26, 2023.
After updating, clear the CMOS and reinstall the Hyper M.2 Card to verify its functionality.
We recommend installing the GPU in PCIEX16(5G)_1, the Hyper M.2 Card in PCIEX16(5G)_2, and the M.2 SSD in the M.2_1 slot on the Hyper M.2 Card.

Regarding enabling CSM, please refer to the relevant steps in [Motherboard] Troubleshooting - Cannot find the hard disk drive or SSD(M.2) after the motherboard powers on.

Thank you.
