How to make motherboard find USB install stick

Hi all!

I built a rig, currently without a dedicated GPU, with a 7800X3D CPU and X670E Crosshair Gene motherboard. I have used the microsoft media creation tool to create a windows 11, and now also a Windows 10, install USB stick.

However, I can't make the USB stick show up when I enter BIOS. There's nothing to choose between in the boot priority list. I understand why my M2 drives doesn't show since they are new, but the USB drive should show up? I have tried putting it into different USB slots on the motherboard. I have rebooted between every new slot I have tried.

Is there something I need to configure in BIOS/UEFI?

Hello,

How is the USB drive formatted? Make sure the drive is formatted as FAT32 prior to creating the media.

Also, depending on the USB stick you may need to enable Legacy USB Support within the UEFI. Use the search function top right to find this quickly.

The USB drive is formatted as 32GB FAT32. (Actual hardware is 128GB Samsung) Legacy USB Support is enabled in UEFI.

It may be that the drive got formatted as 32GB FAT32 by the microsoft media software.

We would recommend that you prioritize referring to the instructions and relevant steps outlined in [Motherboard] How to install Windows 11?
Please cross-test with another 32GB FAT32 USB if needed.

Eventually I began trying every available USB port, after those on the motherboard I went for the ones on the chassi. The final port was a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 that accepted the USB stick and I was able to install windows.

During the progress I received a few d6 error codes I hope won't appear again. So far it has booted into windows with no issues.
