How do I enable PCIE tunneling in Thunderbolt 4?

Hello,

I have ROG STRIX Z690-I Gaming WIFI motherboard and my thunderbolt control center showing that PCIE tunneling is not enabled and advising that it can be enabled in BIOS. I can not see this option at all in BIOS. Anybody has any idea?

May I ask if the situation you described happened after any changes were made? For example, updating the BIOS or connecting an external device

I am seeing the same with a brand new ThunderboltEx4 card in an also brand new ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING motherboard.  PCIE tunneling is Disabled.

I have two different thunderbolt docks and both show in the Attached Devices list in the Thunderbolt Control Center app, but neither shows in the Approve Devices page. And I thus can not set either to connected to make them work.

I have tried the ThunderboltEx4 in all three PCI slots on the motherboard but all show the same PCIE tunneling disabled state.

I don't see any thunderbolt or PCIE tunneling options in the Bios.

ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING is on latest Bios 1101.

I have that exact same issue with TUF Z690 WIFI D4 plus motherboard and ThunderboltEx 4 card. At first I had trouble with Thunderbolt 4 (1137) in Device Manager showing up as disabled which led me to update my motherboard bios and thunderboltex bios to the very latest versions. The device itself is now recognized, shows up in device manager. I can connect USB-C devices. I can also connect thunderbolt devices and they show up in thunderbolt control panel but I cannot use them because PCIe tunneling is disabled. I followed steps to enable Windows 10 support for thunderbolt in bios. Also, when booting Ubuntu it does not work. It says Security status cannot be determined for thunderbolt card.

I see the same issue where Thunderbolt controller is enumerated in the device manager but thunderbolt control centre says that the PCIE tunneling is disabled under the software section. Did you happen to solve this?

Yes - after checking everything again I realized that in the TUF Z690 WIFI D4 manual it states that only the bottom-most slot PCIEX16(G3) is supported. The slot in the middle slot PCIEX4(G3) does not work with ThunderboltEx4 card,

So, after plugging it into that bottom slot it started working for me.
