Higher voltage on 17-4700k after BIOS Update 1703 (Z790-E GAMING WIFI II )

Mindris
Level 7

Before updating, I was using the bios version (1503 or something) with my i7-4700k, in idle/really low work loads it was using mid-high 1.3V, in games (such as WoW, Minecraft, etc) it constantly sat around 1.36-1.38V and peaking at around 1.43V.

After the 1703 update (the microcode update), while the voltages dropped significantly (0.95V-1.0V idle / 1.1-1.2V very low work loads), in games (especially WoW) voltages were consistently higher across the board (avg 1.39-1.435V and peaking sometimes at 1.48V).

Clock speeds haven't changed, temperature is virtually the same (55-60C in games, 40C idle).
Bios settings are the same on both versions (Intel optimised, AI OC Disabled, XMP I Enabled)
I am using HWiNFO and reported the average Vcore results over a span of at least 30ish minutes.

Is this normal or is it just me? Are the voltages fine or should I do something about it?

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply!

I haven't experienced any other issues since the update, nor the ones you mentioned. Everything else seems to work the same as it did on the previous version.

If other issues seem to surface i will report them, but so far everything seems to work very well.

I had a similar problem and the bios update helped. Also used games like Minecraft & Valorant.
