Hi, I'm at my wit's end with this one and was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what's going on.
I restarted my PC and was trying to enter bios to adjust a setting. Instead, I was brought to the "Bios updating...do not turn off or restart your pc" dialogue. I did NOT do any bios updates or anything of the sort and had been using it normally prior to restarting. It seemed to be stuck there, I googled and it seems the advice in this situation was to actually power off the PC, so I did... which may have been a terrible mistake.
The motherboard no longer powers on, either with front panel power button or the "start" button on the motherboard itself. It does HAVE power, because the LEDs and buttons are illuminated, but will not switch on.
So far I have:
-tried bios flashback
-tried clear cmos button
-took apart my watercooling loop to access CMOS battery to clear CMOS by removing, switching bios to 2
-tried bios flashback on 2
-checked PSU: plugged into a jumper and it powers my pump, fans, case lights, etc, the fan turns on no problem
Specs:
Mobo: ROG Crosshair Apex x870e
CPU: Ryzen 9950x3d
GPU: ROG Astral 5090
RAM: Gskill Trident 2 x 16 gb (F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR)
PSU: Corsair HX1500i
All parts are brand new; the build is only a few weeks old and had been functioning totally fine without problems whatsoever. I had been gaming happily prior to all this. I've just never encountered a situation where the mobo has power but will not power on.
Thanks, please help if anyone has any ideas!

Try different ddr5 memory sticks. I have gskilll ripjaws m5 and they came from the factory with severe defects and I will need to replace them within the next few months. I ran into a similar issue as you and found that bios flashing without the memory connected then installing them into the other ports worked as a temp fix.

Thanks, I tried this but unfortunately no dice. Talked to ASUS who told me to RMA.

The BIOS updating message, without ever having prompted or tried to run EZFlash / USB Flashback, is usually brought on by system instability.
If the board fails to POST on either BIOS, then that would indicate an issue outside of that. If you need any help initiating an RMA, let me know

Thanks for the info, I've never had a bios try to auto update (which would seem ill advised..), so I was very confused. I did try to reseat the CPU today which did not solve anything. It fails to post from either bios. Sucks.

A bios update can occur automatically if your operating system initiates it, moreover based on what was stated and further contemplation, your issue could be that you either have not initiated the bios flash correctly or you hard drives are causing some issues during the flash. On most asus motherboards a bricked system can still be recovered as I have bricked my system many times so a permanently bricked system likely isn't the problem. I recommend following the flashing steps below, then, if it fails, try flashing without the hard drives. It could be a hardware issue but based on what was stated that would be highly unlikely.
Step-by-Step BIOS Flash Guide
Prepare the USB drive: Format a USB drive (under 32 GB is recommended) to FAT32.
Download the BIOS file: Go to the official ROG website for the ROG Crosshair X870E Apex and download the latest BIOS file.
Rename the BIOS file: Extract the downloaded ZIP file and use the included BIOSRenamer.exe tool to automatically rename the .CAP file to the specific name required by your motherboard.
Copy to USB: Move the renamed BIOS file to the root directory of the FAT32 formatted USB drive.
Connect and initiate:
Connect the motherboard's 24-pin ATX power connector to the power supply.
Connect the power supply to the wall and turn it on.
Insert the USB drive into the specific USB port designated for BIOS Flashback.
Press and hold the BIOS Flashback button on the back of the motherboard for a few seconds until the BIOS LED starts to flash.
Wait for completion: The LED will flash at varying speeds, and the process is complete when it stops flashing.
Finish the process: Once the flashing is complete, you can remove the USB drive and then proceed to assemble your PC and boot it up.
Important Considerations
Correct BIOS file
: Always ensure you download the BIOS file for your exact motherboard model to avoid potentially bricking the system.
USB Drive
: Use a FAT32 formatted USB drive, and if the update fails, try a different USB drive.

A SanDisk 16GB USB 2.0 drive is best while 2.1, 3.0, and 3.1 USB drives will fail almost always.

The MB LEDs no longer lighting indicates a deeper issue. I've moved the thread to ROG Care; however, you may want to contact service for your region.
