Greetings ROG community
After running the ASUS LEGO IT8857GX V0203 Firmware Update Tool, one of my two usb-c to hdmi display adapters connected to one of the USB 4 40G ports that support dp alt mode on the rog crosshair x870e hero stopped working. Each is from a different brand. I would like to figure out why this is the case? Before running the update tool, both adapters worked and both my displays were getting video data.
- adapter 1: uni usb-C to HDMI adapter (kept working)
- adapter 2: HP usb c to hdmi 2.0 adapter (SN: 8cj947y2B5) ( stopped working)
Could there be something about the adapters that makes one incompatible?
What I've tested:
- Swap working uni adapter to usb 4 port of failing adapter. (Display worked)
- swap hdmi cables of both adapters (only the display not connnected to the faulty hp adapter worked)
- Tested failing hp adapter on laptop with thunderbolt port (display worked)
Based on what I observed, I believe this is not a hardware issue.
UPDATE: After I downgraded (for the sake of science) from ASUS LEGO IT8857GX V0203 Firmware to ASUS LEGO IT8857GX V105 firmware the hp display adapter started working again. However, I would like to still figure out why this is the case. Is this a bug in the ASUS LEGO IT8857GX V0203 Firmware or is it incompatibility of the hp adapter with newer dp alt mode protocols?
UPDATE 2: I had another usb-c to hdmi adapter lying around from uni after updating and testing with this adapter I can confirm both displays work. Can someone explain to me what is different about the HP adapter so that that one does not work, while a uni adapter does work?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance!
