Extremely slow boot times ... ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI

Rob_Ainscough

I've noticed many other threads relating to slow boot times.

About 2 weeks ago, my system started to take 10-15 minutes to boot.

Background, this motherboard has had issue from day 1 ... it will NOT accept more than 2 RAM modules (doesn't matter what is set for timing EXPO, Auto, manual).  Then about 2 months later the onboard LAN stopped working, had to buy a NIC and use a PCIe slot.  Now the system takes 10-15 minutes to boot.

I only just noticed a message from some time ago from what I think is an ASUS rep, I've provided my serial number and additional info requested.

I read thru this thread here and if the expectation is that I need to do memory training on every boot (as suggested), then I can't see me having a future with any ASUS products, that's just not acceptable to wait 10-15 minutes on every boot.

Hello @Rob_Ainscough

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Regarding your memory modules, may I confirm if both modules are from the same kit? Could you provide the part number of the memory and the slots in which they are installed?

When both memory modules are installed, do you encounter a no-boot issue or a different problem? If it is a no-boot issue, are there any Q-LED indicators solid during the process? After clearing CMOS and booting without any manual BIOS adjustments, does the issue persist?

Regarding the prolonged boot time, did this issue occur only after installing the NIC?
Prolonged boot times could be caused by hardware malfunctions, compatibility issues, or software conflicts. To troubleshoot the LAN abnormality, we recommend temporarily removing the additional network card to rule out potential software or hardware conflicts.
When the LAN issue occurs, what is the status of the LED indicators on the LAN port? Additionally, could you let us know your OS and build version, as well as confirm whether you have installed the latest Realtek LAN Driver from the TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS WIFI official website?
We suggest referring to the following FAQs for troubleshooting:

If you encounter any difficulties or have any concerns during the process, please provide detailed information, screenshots, or operation videos to help us better understand your situation.

Thank you.

Due to the local holidays, my responses may be slightly delayed.
For any urgent cases, we recommend reaching out to your local service center for further assistance. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

1.  Both modules are from the same kit.

2. Memory modules are G.Skill Trident DDR5 F5-6000J3038F16GX2-TZ5NR 1.35v AMD EXPO

3. No issues with 2 memory modules in Slot DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2.  Any attempt to use slot DIMM_A1 or DIMM_B1 and the system will not boot.

4. Q-LED is RED (CPU)

5.  Yes, the same issue is present with a clearing of CMOS.

6.  Pro-Long boot time started to happen about 8 months after install 10G NIC.

7.  I'm not having an issues with my installed 10G NIC ... I installed 10G because the onboard LAN stopped working after about 2 months and disabled the onboard LAN via EFI.

8.  Not sure how I can provide an operational video of my system not booting?  You want a 120 minute of me hitting the power button and nothing happening?

I think a more productive venue for you to pursue would be to have your engineers look at quality control.  The exact same RAM not working in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 but does work in DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2 is indicative or a physical problem with the motherboard.
