Greetings,
Been saving for a while to get myself a new computer for the first time since 2017. Decided I'd put it together myself this time, something I hadn't done since I was much younger. That may have been... a mistake.
System specs:
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
ASUS ROG Crosshair x870e Extreme
G.Skill Trident G5 Neo Series 2x32GB
ASUS Rog Astral 5090
WD Black SN8100 4TB
Corsair HX1200i (2025) Power Supply
When I boot it up, everything seems to light up and have power. All fans are spinning; however, I get nothing to my display. The motherboard goes through a bunch of codes and then stops on 99, and says "HDD" on the display.
Things I have tried:
1. Ensured everything is plugged in properly.
2. Updated bios (using the button on the back so I didn't need my screen for that)
3. Tried booting with just 1 stick of RAM (Tried both sticks).
4. Tried both DP and HDMI cables for my monitor.
5. Ensured Hard Drive was properly installed.
5. Tried disconnecting various non-essential things on the off chance the were interfering, like the USB connector and Audio Connector that goes to the front of the case, and the LCD screen on the AIO.
6. Hit the Clear CMOS button.
7. Booting with no hard drive installed at all.
Just keeps getting to the same code 99 place and no video to my screen.
Any help is *greatly* appreciated.

Hi @datalink7
Q-Code 99 = Super I/O init hang (often USB/header/device related, or GPU/display path).
1. Clear CMOS via rear I/O panel.
2. Boot with everything USB unplugged: all external USB + all internal USB headers (front USB-A/USB-C, AIO USB, RGB hubs/controllers, internal LCD.
3. Rule out GPU - remove 5090 and use iGPU.
4. Install 1 DIMM module into slot A2
5. Reseat CPU cooler and CPU, inspect CPU-pin pad and socket for any debris or damage. Remount ensuring consistent mounting pressure. If using a third-party CPU contact frame, remove this and reinstall the stock retention mechanism.

Thank you. I will try all that when I get home from work today.

Well, tried everything except the CPU bit and no dice so far. Still no display even with GPU out and monitor plugged into the motherboard. Just 99 with an HDD message. Will try the CPU later this evening after the kid goes to bed, as that is going to require the table and him not running around.

After doing all your suggestions, and tearing my hair out with no luck, I thought, "one thing I haven't checked is if the culprit is my brand new $1200 ASUS monitor."
Went and grabbed my wife's monitor.
And, well... I am now installing Windows.

Glad to hear it, sounds like a potential hand-off issue! Make sure to retest on HDMI / different DP cable on the culprit monitor. Some bad DP cables can feed AC back into the card if they don't meet the spec for the 3.3v pin.
