Hi @JordiC I'm sorry I do not understand your statement that your Sony WF-1000XM5 support Dolby Atoms. What do you mean by it?

When I go to Sony website at https://electronics.sony.com/audio/headphones/truly-wireless-earbuds/p/wf1000xm5-b?srsltid=AfmBOooIn... and look at the product page as well as specification of these earbuds, all I can see is that these are Noise Cancelling earbuds using Bluetooth 5.3 version with a list of codecs (SBC, AAC, LDAC, LC3) that it support. Nowhere it says anything about Dolby Atmos support.

Now your board also support Bluetooth 5.3 so most likely you will be able to connect these earbuds using Bluetooth to your board.

In terms of playing any Dolby Atmos content, that depends on the software you will be using to play this content. It is the software that is going to decode your Dolby Atmos audio stream and convert it into a stereo sound which is then going to be sent over the Bluetooth signal (which is always very lossy as in losing quality) that your earbuds are going to play. The amount of audio quality loss is going to dependent on the Bluetooth Codec that is going to get used. This is why in the footnotes of your earbuds Sony states the following

  • At the maximum transfer rate of 990 kpbs.
  • You need to set the function to “Priority on Sound Quality” using the Sony | Headphones Connect app. Compatible devices supporting LDAC will be required.

Basically using LDAC codec will give you higher quality sound if your board is able to connect using this codec. I do not know if your board supports this codec as the technical specification does not talk about supported codec.

If you use these Bluetooth earbuds to play games and you experience your game audio is lagging and you are missing shots or getting killed, this is because Bluetooth audio has higher latency. The most commonly used and supported codec is SBC and this has over 200ms of latency. This is noticeable in games but is not noticeable in playing songs or talking over phone/video conference. In order to get better latency, the board and the Bluetooth earbuds need to be support newer technologies like Bluetooth LE, or APT-X Codec etc.

I hope this information helps you understand what is going on and has given you enough information to start your research. You need to describe your use case with the software to get a much better response. I am not an expert so I may not be able to help you much beyond what I have already shared here. I will do my best to answer your future questions if you have any. Good luck!
