Hi everyone,
I just bought a new computer and realized there is no optical option (but why?) in the motherboard and I am losing my mind trying to figure out how to plug in my AV system to my PC. My motherboard is an Asus z790-P and I've reviewed ASUS's forum staff telling people to get a sound card or a USB DAC .
Issue is there is no sound card that supports 5.1 just from the Optical plug in, only seems to do stereo. The USB DAC option reviews say there is a delay and Microsoft volume up/down doesnt work. For a gaming motherboard I obviously dont want sound delay.
HDMI option is also out of the question given I have multiple monitors running high refresh rate
Are there any other options? Not sure why this seems to be so difficult in 2024, you'd think many people would be running AVs to their computer for better sound quality but it seems like we went backwards.

Hello @SauceCakes
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Could you please confirm if the model you are inquiring about is the PRIME Z790-P or the PRIME Z790-P D4-CSM?
Different models within the same series may have slight variations in hardware and software specifications.
Have you reviewed the specifications page or the user manual on the official website for more details?
Regarding the audio issue, we recommend referring to the guidance in [Motherboard] Troubleshooting - Audio with no sound and updating the BIOS and related drivers to see if the issue is resolved. For audio quality concerns, you may consider using an external DAC or sound card to achieve better sound performance.
Thank you.
