Crosshair VIII Extreme not detecting SSD card

Fr_Sharkey
Level 7

Hi everybody and happy new year !

I am new here and just finished setting up my new config :
ROG Helios Strix box
ROG Crosshair VIII Extreme X570, water cooled
Ryzen 5800X3D
PCI Express 4.0 x16: XFX RX 7900 XT Speedster MERC 310
96 Go RAM
3 Corsair SSD M2 for a total of 5TO
1 SSD SATA 2TO
1 HD 2TO

Issues :
- 2 SSD M2 only recognized when connected through DIMM.2 card, not when directly plugged on the MOBO.
- The SATA SSD and HD never recognized despite many attemps, cables switches etc...
Behave like the sata ports are desactivated or, may be,  that the disks are not alimented (double checked too, cables are ok and connected) They were fully functionnal on my former machine.
Looking for clues and solutions,

Thank you.

Hello, @Fr_Sharkey

Thank you for reaching out us.
Could you please confirm which two slots you used when installing directly into the M.2 slots, and have you enabled CSM in the BIOS?
According to the ROG CROSSHAIR VIII EXTREME user manual, the CPU provides the M.2 channel, whereas the X570 chipset provides the DIMM.2.
In light of this, we recommend verifying the correct installation of the CPU.
Furthermore, please check whether it is necessary to update the BIOS to the latest version 1402, released on November 1, 2023, and reconfirm after clearing CMOS.
If needed, please refer to [Motherboard] for assistance in case of issues such as being unable to detect the hard disk drive or...

Thank you.

For any urgent cases, we recommend reaching out to your local service center for further assistance. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Hello and Thank you...

How do I check cpu install, it is rightly recognized by the bios and fully functional, do I need to perform other checks?

Other question, do I loose performances to use my ssd through dimm. 2 instead of directly on motherboard?

Otherwise, I shall update the bios ASAP and keep you posted.

Hello, @Fr_Sharkey

We would recommend considering whether there is a need to update the BIOS.
If possible, reinstall or cross-test with another CPU to eliminate potential hardware issues such as bent pins.
The difference between M.2 and DIMM.2 is that one uses a channel given by the CPU, and the other relies on a channel provided by the chipset.
