Hello
I have a Crosshair Dark Hero board, specs:
In January it started to freeze randomly, first every few days, then every few hours, then immediately on boot. (Note: The system was running fine for roughly 3 years prior that)
I was able to get this resolved by disabling Global C-States in the BIOS.
However, now - 4 months later - it's back. I have reset the BIOS settings and re-applied them.
I've also tried disabling Precision Boost Override to no avail.
It mostly freezes while not doing much (e.g. browsing the web).
Everything is stock settings - no overclocks (not even D.O.C.P. at the moment)
I had Ryzen Master running on the last crash, and it looks like this when it froze:
And like this after reboot:Ryzen Master after reboot
What can I do to stop this from happening?
Thanks

I have replaced the CPU now. It has been running for days without a crash, with C-States enabled and D.O.C.P with 4 RAM Sticks

Hi @MichelZ
AM4 has a hard time with that number of ranks, have you tried with just two modules to see if the behaviour persists?

I have not tried that yet with "this" instance of the error. (I did try back in January before I discovered the C-State fix - and it did not help)
I'll try.
I did just get another crash (this time it fully rebootet - not just freeze), I can now see a WHEA error
A fatal hardware error has occurred.
Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 6

Hello, @MichelZ
Could you please clarify if this issue occurred following any changes, such as a BIOS update or component replacement?
Have you tried clearing CMOS and booting with the default BIOS settings, yet the random freezing issue still persists?
When the freezing occurs, how do you usually resolve it, such as by waiting or performing a forced reboot?
Kindly confirm the following information to help us understand your situation better.
- current OS and build version
- RAM part number and the currently installed slots
Please try installing a single RAM stick in the DIMM_B2 slot and check again
- a complete video recording of the freezing issue.
This should include the system state when the random freezing occurs, CPU and GPU temperatures, the operation of the chassis environment (such as fan operation), and your current method for resolving the issue.
To better verify your specifications, I have DM you, kindly check your inbox at your convenience.
Thank you.
