Cold boot problem ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI

As others, I have cold boot problems with my Asus Z790 .

The computer may start, or not, sometimes after many reboots, most of the time on the second call.

I've read it's a known issue with this card ( at this price point I would have expected a more reliable board : I miss my Gigabyte).

Of course , the bios is up to the last version, running Windows 11. As it works normally when it enventually boots , it looks like a hardware problem...
Does anyone has found a solution to this ?

I have no problems with the cold boot of the mainboard.
I haven't read anything about such a problem.

What other hardware do you have installed?

The mainboard has Q-LED displays for CPU, RAM, GPU and boot.
Does one of the LEDs stay on when there are boot problems?

• + 1x Gigabyte GeForce RTX 3050 EAGLE OC 8G (LHR)

The website you linked to provides help if this problem occurs with any Asus device. It does not specifically refer to the ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI motherboard.

As a result, this is not a specific problem with the ROG STRIX Z790-F GAMING WIFI motherboard, but rather a general problem with different devices that can occur again and again.

As already described, I have NO problem with cold boot or anything similar.

Therefore, it would be interesting to check the Q-LEDs the next time you cold start your PC in order to narrow down the cause of the problem.

It would also be worth knowing whether the problem has always existed for you or whether it has only recently been triggered by another event (BIOS update, etc.).

You are right inge70, it is a general info from Asus, but it's exactly the  problem I have.

For the leds, when the PC starts, there's first a red light, blinking, then a second led is lit white, then green, then no led at all , and the ROG boot screen forever.
When it works, it's the same, but the red light remains longer.

As there's no software or hardware difference at all, I don't understand why it boots sometimes normally, or not.
Btw, even if the system has been running for several hours, if I reboot, it can happen, so cold boot failure might be a wrong call 🙂

I'm still stuck with this issue.

Please confirm whether the behaviour persists after clearing the CMOS via the rear IO panel, leaving the system at Optimised Defaults without XMP enabled.

It is normal for the Q-LEDs to light up/blink alternately when the PC starts. But they should then be off again.
These are the tests of the CPU, RAM, GPU and boot.
But none of them should be lit permanently, otherwise there would be a hardware problem.

When you turn off the PC, do you also unplug it from the power or does it stay connected to the socket?
Has the problem been there from the start or did it only start some time ago?

When I turn off the PC, it stays connected to the socket. The power supply is a Gigabyte P850 GM.
The problem was there from the start, but rarely in the beginning, now it's almost every start.

After updating the bios ( 1501 / 2002 / 2301) I always first set the parameters to defaults. And I only change the Q fan settings, I don't overclock anything. XMP is disabled as I was trying to solve the problem. No success so far.

@Zeubest Have you tried to check your memory using either OCCT utility of MemTest86? Also which DIMM Slots are using for your memory sticks? Since you have 2 of them, they need to go into A2 and B2 slots i.e. the 2nd and 4th slot from the CPU with 1st slot being the one closest to the CPU and 4th being the furthest away from CPU.

You can also see if you use just 1 memory stick in A2 slot one by one if that makes the problem disappear. If it does then it is a memory fault or memory issue.
