I have tried the flash bios with the renamed .cap file multiple times after reformatting the drive multiple times have re downloaded 2004 bios multiple times and renamed it repeat. Won’t update says this is not a bios file. Go into bios and try with second usb drive file extracted file not renamed choose it same response this is not a bios file. I have pulled the cmos battery pulled all devices from the board just at a loss here . Owned multiple asus boards all intel never had this issue before this is the x870e l-e gamifying WiFi any tips I really don’t want to send the board back just got it the 30th thanks

Hello Dvnstad
With the bios file extracted and on your usb flash drive, manually rename the bios file to ASUS.CAP
Then try the EZ Flash utility.
If it still gives you "Not a proper bios file", redownload the bios file, use the bios renamer and try the bios flashback feature.

I’ve downloaded it and the 1804 both multiple times reformatted the USB’s fat 32 multiple time renamed with app multiple times tried the two bios options available. Then went to another pc and made the USB’s formatting and bios renamed to the drive from it as well I’ve unplugged everything from the board but the cpu and still will not update either way . Never have had this issue in the past with asus boards all be it they were all intel before this one

I found the issue. I followed link to the board asus rog x870e-e gaming WiFi, the bios files listed for the board had an “R2” after them I opened on a different browser chrome and followed the links to support on it and when it gave me a list of bios versions there were many more then the previous page I had been downloading from. Page I got them from before only listed three for the board the page I got via chrome had at least ten offerings and betas. Long story short grabbed bios 2004 from this page and is currently updating with this new pages version

Ok,
1) Follow this video to rename the bios file and put it on your usb flash drive.
Link to bios - ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI | ROG Strix | Gaming Motherboards|ROG - Republic of Gamers|ROG Global
Once you have the bios file on your usb flash drive:
2) Shut down your pc and let the psu switch on.
3) Insert the usb flash drive into the motherboard usb port marked BIOS.
4) Press and hold the Bios Flashback button until the led starts blinking, then release.
5) It should take a few minutes to complete, when the blinking stops, start your pc. It may continue to update.
How does this go?

I have done this multiple times really wish it would just work like that says. Blinks while I hold in the flash button the after I release the button flashes couple times and goes solid again. Have tried the other method from within the current bios with another isb and full in altered bios say it’s not a bios file. Have also removed all but the processor and m.2 from the board in an attempt to get it to go I got the bios from the support page for the board I have the rog x870e-e strix gaming WiFi . Thought maybe it doesn’t want to jump to 2004 from 1401 so I have also tried the 1801 I believe it is as well

Ah ok, I can understand the confusion with the R2 motherboard.
Good to hear you got the bios updated.
