Hi all!!! I wonder if anyone else has this problem after updating the bios to version 2204. My machine freezes then restarts. I first noticed it when I was rendering a scene. Another time when it sits idling. Another when my Brave browser was lagging.
What I thought it could be was the AI overclock maybe boosting the CPU or RAM to high for the rendering. Not sure why when idle.
I changed CPU Boost to off I think and left it on CPU Ratio. I will clarify these changes shortly.
I left the RAM setting on auto as I don't know the ideal settings. On BIOS version 1104 changed the RAM to the recommend profile shown on a few websites but my PC became very unstable. So version 2204 I left it on auto fearing the same problem.
What programmes can I run to see what the actual fault could be? Maybe I might need a windows reinstall. Let me know what other info you guys need.
Thanks!.

I want to make a correction. It was from BIOS version 1004 to 2204. Apologies.
I also found out from windows event viewer when the PC restarts I get a critical power error.
It's logged as an "EventID 142" with this message "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error is caused because the system stopped responding and the hardware watchdog triggered a system reset."
Not sure what it is. I stressed test my CPU, GPU and RAM on default settings then I found a vid to correctly time the RAM and stress tested it as well. No problems. I played a game for 3 hours on MAX settings and nothing.
Another suggestion could be PSU but I will need to buy a physical PSU tester.
Is it possible to rollback BIOS version? My machine was running fine on the old BIOS version.

Hello @Draico01
Thank you for reaching out to us.
According to the ROG STRIX X670E-A GAMING WIFI support page, there is no BIOS version 1004, and rolling back to significantly different versions might be difficult.
Meanwhile, for explanations related to Event 142 and "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first," please refer to the following link:

Could you please confirm if you have made any other software or hardware changes, such as a Windows update or CPU replacement, besides updating the BIOS?
After updating to BIOS 2204, clearing CMOS, and running the system with the default BIOS settings, including without enabling EXPO memory overclocking or other manual adjustments, does the instability scenario still occur?
If persists, kindly share a video recording by following the recording steps for us to better understand the situation:
1) Start recording, Clear CMOS and boot into BIOS to see the main page information, then enter the system
2) open third-party software to monitor system temperature, ruling out overheating during use as a cause of the restart
3) perform tasks that can trigger the issue, such as gaming or rendering scenes, and continuously monitor the temperature before triggering the restart
4) record the state of the PC during the restart (whether the fans are running, any error beeps, or error codes)
5) after the restart is complete, check the error codes in the event viewer before ending the record
Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. I actually have a BIOS version 1004. But I was testing thing later in the week and I tried something. I turned off/disabled auto start MSI Afterburner. I then restarted my machine ran a few tests. I used MSI Kombustor to stress the Palit 4090. Results good. Stress the RAM after I followed a tutorial/recommendation to time my G.Skill Trident Z5 DDR5-5600 chip by Hynix. It ran with no problems. Previously on the BIOS memory profile my PC was unstable and on auto the RAM was slow. These settings run smooth.
Next test was to play a game for 3-4 hours. Ran fine and final test I rendered a few of the 3D scenes use Arnold and Vray. Those ran fine.
I have now worked out that MSI Afterburner was causing the issue. I can leave my PC on idling and it hasn't restarted. I will still monitor my PC for any other hiccups. Thank you for you help and feedback.

Hello @Draico01
Thank you for your prompt reply and situation update. We're glad that you were able to determine the cause.
When system instability occurs, we recommend reducing any overclocking settings that might cause instability or avoiding software configurations that could create compatibility or setting conflicts.
Minimizing the configuration can help isolate potential hardware or software problems.
Please continue to monitor and adjust as needed during regular use, and feel free to update us at any time.
Thank you.

Hi @Jiaszzz_ROG
After all this time I now getting freezes again and today Monday 2024-09-16 has been the worst. The freezing has been happing about 5 times today. So I did research and tests and found out it's my graphics card. With the Strix X670E-A I enabled the integrated graphics cards and it looks like the freezing has stopped. I need to test it some more. Looks like I need to send my gcard to for analysis.
Thank you for all your assistance.

Hello @Draico01
Thank you for your update.
We recommend cross-testing specific hardware components to help isolate any potential issues.
Additionally, please ensure that the relevant VBIOS, BIOS, or firmware are updated to the latest version, and check again with the default settings.
Thank you.
