BIOS Freeze and UI Issues on ASUS ROG Strix B850-F (Core Tuning Options) – JEDEC RAM, 7800X3D

Hello,

I am French and my English is not perfect, so I wrote this with the help of an AI to explain my problem clearly.

I have a ROG Strix B850-F motherboard with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, and I want to report some BIOS issues.

Freeze issues

  • The BIOS sometimes freezes when I try to enable Turbo Mode or Core Tuning.

  • Turbo Mode is meant for dual-CCD CPUs; I do not use it, but testing it sometimes crashes the BIOS.

RAM

  • I use JEDEC memory settings and have tested different modules and slots.

  • MemTest shows no errors.

  • I am not sure, but I wonder if it could be related to the management of Infinity Fabric / FCLK by the motherboard. This is just a guess, I could be wrong 100% as I am still learning about RAM timings, Infinity Fabric, and chipset/motherboard BIOS management.

BIOS UI problems

  • Mouse clicks sometimes do not work, so I have to use arrow keys.

  • Mouse sensitivity is different between wired and wireless modes inside BIOS.

Missing SP feature

  • The BIOS does not show the SP option to check CPU memory controller quality, even though this is a ROG Strix motherboard. I do not know if this is normal.

Other notes

  • These issues exist on older BIOS versions and continue on the latest.

  • I already reset CMOS.

  • The latest BIOS does not allow rollback, and I am on AGESA ComboAM5 PI 1.2.7.0.

  • My chipset drivers are up to date.

The system is otherwise stable in JEDEC and DOCP modes. I think these are BIOS bugs, but the Infinity Fabric / memory handling remark is only a guess, not a confirmed fact.

I hope this report will help ASUS notice the problem and maybe fix it in future BIOS updates. I can provide screenshots or videos if needed.

Thank you for your help. 🙂

Hi @ROGoc0hqwhmak0w

First and foremost, have you tried running any CPU-centric stress tests? Try OCCT or AIDA64. Given the information above, it sounds like the CPU is the culprit. The system certainly shouldn't be crashing in BIOS when enabling certain features, and it's not something that seems to be reported otherwise.

Run some preliminary stress tests from within the OS. It may also be beneficial to check the CPU mount and temperatures.

If using a third-party contact frame, please remove and reinstall the stock CPU retention mechanism.

Hello, @Silent_Scone

Thank you for your reply. I have tested my CPU under stress (OCCT) and it reaches 4.4 GHz with maximum 73 °C (30 min) . I am also using a 280 mm watercooling, and the system is fully stable under load.

The BIOS freeze happens even with JEDEC memory settings, no overclock, and multiple memory modules tested. This occurs before Windows starts, so I strongly believe the issue is a BIOS/UEFI bug, not a CPU or hardware problem.

The only doubt I have is about my RAM: it is Corsair Vengeance 6000 MHz CL30, Hynix M-Die. In AIDA64, the latency shows around 80 ns with ~59 000 MB/s bandwidth, which seems a bit unusual, but MemTest passes without errors, so nothing fails outright

Hello
I usually get a frozen BIOS if the overclocking settings or CO values are too high. But if everything is running at default settings, that’s strange.Regarding the mouse — try plugging it into a different USB port. Unfortunately, USB-related bugs do occur on the AM4–AM5 platform in general.

As for the BIOS freezing — I would try rolling back to version 1.2.0.3f. In my opinion, it’s one of the most stable versions, at least on my motherboard. If issues persist even there, I would check whether the CPU and motherboard power cables are firmly seated. Also, inspect the socket for any damage.Additionally, check your motherboard’s support page: if there are any updates related to PD firmware, ASMedia firmware, IT firmware, or similar, I strongly recommend flashing those as well
