I have been building a brand new system for the past couple of weeks. I am currently just waiting for my Asus Matrix 5090 to arrive on December 3 to complete my build. I have been using my Intel integrated graphics to be able to already install Windows 11, firmware & other software. My motherboard is the Asus Z890 BTF.
But since the start I have been running into the problem that my Samsung 9100 Pro 4TB is not recognized at all in the BIOS or when trying to install Windows 11, if it is placed in the primary M.2_1 slot. Changing the M.2_1 slot speed from Auto to Gen 5 or Gen 4 does not make any difference.
I also have a Samsung 990 Pro 4TB installed in the M.2_2 slot, but that SSD is always recognized at all times. Before trying to install Windows 11, I had already updated my BIOS to the most recent 2201 version.
I was only able to use my Samsung 9100 Pro, when I installed it in the M.2_3 slot at Gen 5 speed. At that point the SSD was recognized in the BIOS and I was able to install Windows 11, but only after disabling Intel VMD in the BIOS settings. When Intel VMD was still on, I could not select either of my SSD's to install Windows 11.
After installing Windows 11, I also installed Samsung Magician to update both of my SSD's to the latest firmware. So when the Samsung 9100 Pro is in the M.2_3 slot, everything is working fine as it should, but leaving the SSD in that slot is not an option, because it will make my Asus Matrix 5090 run at PCIEX16(G5) x8 speed when it arrives.
As soon as I try to put the Samsung 9100 Pro back in the M.2_1 slot, it does not get recognized at all in the BIOS and I can no longer boot into Windows 11. Do you have any suggestions about what the problem could be or what else I could try? If nothing else works, I am starting to think that the M.2_1 slot is simply faulty and that I should start to initiate a RMA process for the motherboard with Asus.

I remember 1 time i did encounter this on a friend pc always with samsung nvmes.
THIS IS A TEST sadly if does appear as follow, will erase the nvme you want to use so you can install windows 11. PLease use normal way is better. no rufus no bypass. trust this. (up to you)
Make sure you are on the last bios. (2201)
Since is a windows intel pc, f5 then f10 then back to windows (this guarantee load the intel profile)
Make sure the board has...
VMD disable.
CSM disable.
secure boot in standard (for windows ONLY)
f10 to save.
Back to bios.
Here is the final step: IF does not appear, and we know that works, go f7, TOOL. select secure erase. IF THE NVME APPEARS (M2_1) is ready to be use. just select that then 512 and enter enter the pc will restart
Back in bios then nvme should appear on Storage informacion in EWZ mode. if is there then proceed to install windows normally.
IF DOES NOT WORK RMA the board
Cheers
