Asus x870e-e No Sound

Classic_gamer

Hi!

Upon installing Win11 I noticed I have no sound from the motherboard (Asus x870e-e).

Although Realtek installs the driver in device manager is non-existent. It says USB Audio 2.0 as the generic driver and if you double click that it says this device cannot start.

The Realtek Audio Console installed but if you open it after about 30 seconds it says the RPC service cannot be started.

I've tried installing the drivers manually by clicking "add drivers" in device manager, verified bios is updated (1003) and usb audio is enabled in bios.

In Services.msc realtek is not even on the list, nor is in in the startup section of task manager.

I though perhaps the motherboard had a hardware fault so Microcenter exchanged it and the second motherboard has the same exact issue.

I spent 3 hours on the phone with Asus motherboard support to which they said they will escalate it and who knows when they will reach out.

Am I missing something or are there alternate drivers to try, etc?

HELP!

Hello @Classic_gamer

Thank you for reaching out to us. We apologize for the delayed response due to a public holiday in our region and any inconvenience this may have caused.
Based on the issue you have described, it seems there may be an incomplete driver installation.
Could you please let us know how you installed the drivers? For example, did you manually download and install the Realtek Audio Driver V6.3.9600.2393 from the official ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI website, or did you use Armoury Crate or ASUS Driver Hub for the installation?
For troubleshooting, we recommend manually removing USB Audio 2.0, restarting the system, and then manually installing the driver from the official website to check if it installs correctly.
Additionally, please ensure that all drivers available on the official website are up to date, including the AMD Chipset Driver, and that the [USB Audio Controller] setting in the BIOS is configured as Enabled.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for the information.

As per my first post yes, usb audio is enabled in the bios.

Armory Crate and Asus Driver Hub do not automatically bring down the driver so I was using the version on the Asus website, which is located at the link you provided.

I have since just disabled the driver on my latest fresh install of win11 and am using the gpu for audio (gpu>hdmi cable>tv>tv 3.5mm audio jack>pc speakers.

I figured that there was a driver issue and I would wait before attempting to fiddle around with this again, especially since I just reinstalled all my programs, etc.

I did try several methods including the methods provided by Mokichu to no avail.

I figured it must be a me issue since there doesn't seem to be a lot of complaints.

Asus support over the phone for 3 hours and Asus support via chat for 2 hours were unable to resolve it either.

Update- still no luck.

I tried the latest driver from the MoKiChu thread and it's procedure to install to no avail.

However, I did notice that there is possibly a win11 issue where it broke usb audio, especially with boards that have a DAC?

Google "win11 breaks usb audio" for more details.

I suppose the waiting game continues....

I still haven't figured it out and I appreciate your help! I thought I would update you with some information in case something rings a bell.

Using Win11:

I manually deleted all related drivers via command line

dism /online /get-drivers /format:table

then more command line pnputil /delete-driver /uninstall

using the oem#.inf label for each driver noted in Mokichus posts for dolby since driverstore explorer would delete them but if i hit refresh they would reappear.

After that then driver store explorer showed the drivers are gone.

I installed the drivers listed on the Asus website updated 3/4/2025 and it still shows this:

This is the hardware id of the device in question if that helps:

USB\VID_0B05&PID_1B9B&REV_0013

USB\VID_0B05&PID_1B9B

Anyway, thanks for reading!

I am having exactly the same issue with my x870e-e.
I bought it pair with the new 9950x3D. Put it together yesterday and I have no audio. Everything is exacly as described by Classic_Gamer.
I tried all of the above and even went so far as to reset Windows 11 and reinstall from scratch.
Still nothing.
I've just flashed the BIOS up to 1203 and still I have the same problem.
I can uninstall the USB Audio device from the device manager, restart my PC but it comes back as USB Audio with an exclamation mark and no sound. Windows picks up no audio devices other than my wireless headset and my monitor (thanks Classic_Gamer for the speakers plugged into the monitor work around, it's such a simple thing, I wouldn't have though of that!).

If I run the "AsusSetup.exe" from the latest audio driver on the site "Realtek USB Audio Driver v6.3.9600.2393", it says it's installing driver and software but nothing appears to happen and after a minute, it closes and there's no difference.
The same thing happens with the "Realtek Audio Driver V6.3.9600.2393 for Windows 11.(WHQL)" driver.
If I run the "AsusSetup.exe" from within the Win11 folder of the same zip file, then the "Installing the driver/software, please wait" message stays on screen but never goes away (at least after many minutes of waiting).
If I run setup.exe from the same folder, it appears to install Realtek USB Audio and asks to restart my pc but again, there's no difference.
I'm not sure which install did it, but I do have the Realtek Audio Console installed. If I try and launch this, it sits on the splash screen for ages with a spinny circle before spitting out the message "Can not connect to RPC service."
I'm hoping any of this helps Asus to help us fix the problem!

To add another little bit of troubleshooting, I've found that running any of the setup files in either of the 2 zip files mentioned in my last post causes an error to appear in the application event log -

Looks like my reply before the last one has been deleted somehow?

Thanks Hozzdutch - I feel like perhaps it is not just me now hah

Has anyone with this Asus Rog Strix x870e-e managed to get the usb audio working yet?

Does anyone have any recommended diagnostic procedure to help isolate the cause?

I tried disabling Windows Security and their driver whitelist to no avail as well as updated my bios to 1203.

Additionally, I also installed the latest AMD chipset driver (Version 7.02.13.148) to see if that worked but it didn't.

I don't know what's happened...today it's working like it should be.
I've not done anything that should be related to the sound card but it's working.
I have a Realtek Audio Universal Service running (There were no Realtek services listed before).
So now the Realtek Audio Control panel loads up.

The yellow exclamation on the USB Audio device has gone away

Hozzdutch_0-1742207392649.png

Honestly, I'm at bit of a loss as to what's happened.
I can report though, that trying to install the drivers from the Asus site still results in the same error being reported to the application event log as before.
Wish I could be more helpful, honestly, I've no idea what's different!
