Hello everyone,
Recently I updated my HW config from a 7800x3d to a 9800x3d cpu. I made sure to install the latest BIOS at the time before I did the swap. Since then I updated to version 2704 which released on 1/23. The PC runs fine other than on some boots one of my secondary m.2 ssds is not detected by the PC. I have (5) storage drives, (4) m.2 ssds, and a WD HDD. All drives except one of the m.2s will consistently appear at boot from cold start. I then have to reboot and it will appear. I am not sure why this is happening as I never had any issues before the CPU change.
Is there some sort of PCIE lane limit or something? I read about the PCIE Bifurcation in the BIOS but am unsure what to change if anything, again all drives worked before the hardware change.
This is an inconvenient nuisance, but I can live with if it means avoiding a reformat or motherboard change.
Thank you.

New UEFI addresses some of these issues 2806

As you have 9000 series CPU I would keep to latest UEFI, current latest beta is here.
I don't think it is down to PCIE Bifurcation, [Auto] should be fine. UEFIs can contain various updates and fixes not highlighted in change log.
Even if UEFI has same AGESA, CPU Microcode, CPU SMU FW, CPU IMC FW, etc, there are other elements that get changed. UEFI is combo package of FW from AMD and ASUS, so tweaks and changes can occur from either side or both.

Hi @Boeing25-01
Can you specify full system specs, including the memory kit part number?
Can you verify if the behaviour occurs at complete Optimised Defaults so to ascertain whether it's linked to OC?

Hello Silent_Scone,
ASUS X670-E Gaming on 2704 - AMD AGESA ComboAm5PI 1.2.0.3a Patch A, AMD 9800X3D, 2x32GB G.Skill, Series: Trident Z5 NEO RGB, Model: F5-6000J3040G32GX2-TZ5NR, MSI 4090 SUPRIM, Samsung 970 1TB, Samsung 980 PRO 2TB, Samsung 850 500gb, WD Black 6TB.
This behavior was present before any overclocking or enabling PBO.
Edit: At the time of this writing I updated the BIOS to 2804 BETA Version and loaded optimized defaults and will observe.

Well after several days I thought I was in the clear, the drive showed up consistently. But I was just getting ready to reply to this thread and close it and the issue has resurfaced. I set optimized defaults and saw good behavior, then enabled PBO and EXPO II in the BIOS and saw good behavior, but suddenly tonight the drive is missing again.

Hi @Boeing25-01
With EXPO II enabled can you run Karhu Ramtest and confirm the condition of the overclock, please?

Thanks for confirming. If you wouldn't mind, list all the drives currently connected to the system and in which ports (not trying to be awkward - just need as much info as possible for replication!).
If you could upload your BIOS settings and a saved CMO that would also be useful for this purpose, thanks!

Please find requested information attached. CMO File is the link below. (EDIT The 980 Pro, Circled in Orange is the drive that keeps disappearing)

Thanks - and the drive doesn't disappear whilst at Optimised Defaults?
