asus tuf gaming z690-plus wifi d4: ssd errors

Hello,

I have the Z690-Plus D4

I've had two Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 in RAID 0 for ages.

I discovered I had a Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 (note the size difference)hanging around and, due to lack of free disk space, tried to put it in the other slot (I have tried both spare slots).

When I boot I immediately get an error stating that the raid controller reported a configuration error.

It's almost certainly me being an idiot, but I can't find any references as to what would cause this.

Any ideas?

Ta.

Hello, @DanStall

May I ask which two M.2 slots on the motherboard you used to set up the RAID 0 with the two SSDs? Have you tried cross-testing other SSDs for expansion?

When encountering boot failures or error prompts, are there any Q-LED indicator lights on the motherboard?
If you remove the additionally installed SSD, can the system boot up correctly and enter the OS again?
Meanwhile, could you confirm your current BIOS version?
If you haven't updated to the latest version 3401 released on March 22, 2024, please consider backing up your data and updating the BIOS before rechecking again.

Thank you.

Hello, @DanStall

May I inquire whether, in the event of encountering an inability to boot upon adding a third SSD, have you accessed the BIOS and verified if the Boot Option Priorities are set to prioritize the originally installed system SSD?
If necessary, you may attempt shutting down and disconnecting power, then removing the two SSDs configured in RAID 0.
Then individually install the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 and access the BIOS to confirm recognition before reinstalling the RAID 0 SSDs into the same original slots.

Thank you.
