ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS - 4x32GB DDR5 no post...

Hello there!

I am writing with issue that i am experiencing for the last 30 days...

I am using ASUS TUF GAMING X670E-PLUS mobo with 7950X Ryzen CPU / Latest BIOS 3222
I have setup of two kits 2x32 GB DDR5 6000 Kingston (KF560C36BBEK2-64) memory modules.... Total 4 DIMMs... When i place one kit (2x32GB) it runs well and all setup starts in less than 1 minute...
When i plug in the second kit (4x32GB total) PC hangs... Orange LED don't go off... and the system don't boot... I left it for like 5 hours just before writing here.
Second experiment that i did... Bought y-day a fresh 4x32GB 5200 Kingston kit (KF552C40BBK4-128), that i found in QVL list to be supported for this mobo... When i plug in 2 of the RAM modules it runs great... When i add the remaining 2, it hangs...

The issue is that i do need to go over 100GB of RAM... This PC is not for Gaming purposes!!! I am doing university project and i need RAM... / To be honest i need Threadripper based PC, but my scholarship is not that well paid...

Help needed in resolving this PC not booting up with more than 64 GB of RAM...

Best Regards,

Georgi from Bulgaria

If you need more ram, theres 2 main solutions. Return the the sets you got for 1 set of bigger capacity dimms, or else go with intel. Ryzen only likes 2 slots

Hello there!

Apparently... Ryzen chipsets... and CPUs... don't like the XMP profiles of the RAM when they are more than 2...
I read somewhere to make experiment with default RAM profiles /no clocking/ and so far it is running okay.

Yes i loose some performance... but i hope it is not that big difference between 4800 and 5200 for the set of 4 sticks.

Best regards,

Georgi!

Hi @AngryKitten91 It has nothing to with Ryzen specifically. Mixing and combining kits is never recommended.

Please read article here

Key Points on Why Not to Combine Memory Kits:

Mismatched Timings and Density:

    • Memory vendors bin kits at specific densities.

    • Combining kits for higher density invalidates programmed timings, leading to potential issues.

Troubleshooting Challenges:

    • If rated timings fail, tuning the system manually becomes necessary.

    • Manually tuning with combined or mixed kits requires a deep understanding of memory timings, posing challenges and technical considerations that are difficult to simplify if not experienced in memory overclocking.

Time-Consuming Tuning Process:

    • Tuning memory settings demands significant time, a systematic approach, and patience.

    • Lack of knowledge of memory timings complicates the tuning process.

Recommendation for Simplicity:

    • Purchase a single, compatible memory kit which is one to three frequency bins below the maximum validated speed on the QVL for a smoother experience.

Thank you for the information.

I am not into manually clocking the PC. Not that into the settings... All i wanted is to put 4 big sticks of RAM at decent speed, no matter what their CL latency is, turn on XMP profiles and just use it for some studies.

I didn't mix the kits... Like putting 6000 and 5200 together on the board. And all 2 kits that are 6000, are with the same part number /thinking of removing the mobo supporting problem/ When working fine with one 2 DIMM kit, why don't work with the another one putted extra (With same Part number!) ? Yea... i know... Date of manufacturing is different.

And still one question remains... Kit of 4 modules... = PC don't boot when i turn on XMP profile. Why do we bother to buy RAM with higher clock speeds, when the mobo is not working well with them?

I bet the Technology is so ahead of time... But i never ever had the same issue with DDR3 or prior.

My gaming PC is with DDR4 Ryzen build, and i did get the same knockout when i tried to run with 4 modules (2 exact same kits bought from the same supplier with the same part numbers and almost one after another serial numbers) I did sacrifice myself to run with one kit there...

Wishing you all the best,

Georgi, Bulgaria

You are mixing kits. You're putting two kits together. Kits are binned in the *density* in which they are sold.

A lot of your confusion stems from not understanding what XMP-actually-is.

Read the article. It explains whats XMP is quite clearly, which is overclocking.

It does the same with Factory made kit of 4. With XMP profile... not booting. When XMP is turned off - works fine / so far /

XMP is overclocking. If you want the best chance of plug-and-play without manual intervention, I would pick a lower frequency or opt for 1DPC kits.

I also have a X670E-A and same problem but in a different sittuation, mine hangs on when any software needs to reboot my pc to update any drivers included the firmware updates that Armoury Crate does.

I was searching nonstop for a solution for this problem for almost 2 months and also asked some help from people that i know that also work to repair and build PC and any of the normal solutions to this kind of problem works, i started to think this is all fault of the AI that the UEFI BIOS provides because after many of the testings i have done WITH THE AI IN BIOS OPTIONS ALL DISABLED some options keeps getting enabled or disabled automatically either i use advanzed mode BIOS settings or EZ option that ASUS provides.

Also after repeating to check multiple times each time so no small error's are made some things happens regularly with different hardware and BIOS options:

1) Values for the RAM overclocking in the BIOS are getting changed either way you have them enabled or not.

2) Changing the motherboard with an exact one but new will not solve any of the problems.

3) Every RAM stick that its only Intel XMP compatible and not have any manufactor label saying anything about EXPO compatibility will have some type of issue no matter what you do.

The thing i know its that its 100% a problem with the overclocking profiles of your RAM and it doesnt matter either you have them enabled or not, the only thing you can do is try RAM kits with EXPO labels on them.

Thats why its called ai and not slave cycle, its constantly learning and adapting as it goes. Different sets should never be mixed, its a given that you do not do this. But folks love to save penny's at the end of the day
