ASUS ROG X870E-E - Realtek audio devices names always be reseted to their default names

Hello everyone,

I need your help.
I recently purchased the new X870E-E and I have a problem with the audio peripherals connected to the Realtek sound card.

In Windows, I see the peripherals with their default names such as "Realtek Digital Output" or "Rear Mic".
I want to rename the "Realtek Digital Output" to "YAMAHA SR-C20A" and the "Rear Mic" to "EPOS H6PRO". Once done in Windows, a few seconds later, it reverts to the default names. I removed the driver and reinstalled the latest version, no changed.

I didn't have this problem with my X570E-E and under Windows 11 as well. Do you know why the name is automatically reset to the default?

Thanks for your help,
HawxNS.

Hello,
Just to add to the problem, this morning I deleted the drivers and then I noticed that when it's the default Microsoft driver, I can give a name to the audio devices.
As soon as I reinstalled the Realtek Asus drivers, I could no longer name them.
This seems to be due to a limitation on the driver side, but I would like a solution.
Thank you,
HawxNS.

Hello @HawxNS
Thank you for reaching out to us.
The name of the audio device in Windows may be stored in the registry, and updates to the driver or automatic detection processes could overwrite any custom names you have set.
You can try opening the Registry Editor, locating the relevant device entry, manually modifying the name, and setting it to "read-only" to prevent the system from overwriting it. Alternatively, right-click the device > select Properties > check the Details tab for the hardware ID.  If possible, disable dynamic management at the driver level to prevent Windows from automatically naming the device based on its plug-and-play characteristics.
However either of these steps might be overwritten by future driver updates.
If this setting is essential to you, you may consider staying on a driver version that supports this configuration.

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

The solution in the registers I do not prefer, it may create a lot of problems.
For the other solution, could you share screenshots so that I can see where I need to make this setting?

I did not have this problem with an ASUS motherboard with Realtek control not USB version.

Kind regards,
HawxNS.

Hello @HawxNS
Thank you for your response and confirmation.

For further details, please refer to the information on Hardware ID and Using Custom Hardware IDs and Compatible IDs.

Thank you.

Thanks,
It's too technical for me, it should work normally, I'll take it as a bug.
I hope that a next version of the driver will correct the problem.
