I am having strange problem "ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WIFI II" with my kit of CORSAIR Dominator Titanium RGB DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB) CMP64GX5M2B6000C30, I tested single ram on DIMM A1 slot and enabled XMP1. It didnt boot. neither XMP II.  Only disabling XMP lettting me boot. Then I also checked with dual ram kit on A1 and B1 with XMP I and XMP II but neither go past bios. (disabling xmp working).

But when I tested dual ram kit on A2 and B2 slots it worked. XMP I and XMP II working at 6200mhz (1.4v). Should I RMA this motherboard ?
My PC config is

  • CPU: Intel Core i9-14900K
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z790-E Gaming WIFI II
  • RAM: Two kits of CORSAIR Dominator Titanium RGB DDR5 RAM 64GB (2x32GB), DDR5 6000MHz (4 x 32GB total)
  • Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB CPU Liquid Cooler with LCD Display and RGB Fans
  • Case: NZXT H9 Elite Premium Dual-Chamber Mid-Tower Airflow Case
  • GPU: ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition 24GB GDDR6X 384-Bit
  • PSU: Corsair HX1200i 1200W 80 Plus Platinum Fully Modular Power Supply

I have Two kits of CORSAIR Dominator Titanium (4 stick of 32GB)  but i just tested A1-B1 before enabling XMP with all four sticks... XMP is only working on A2-B2... But I have settled with 5600mhz at 1.4v with all four sticks.... but XMP should work for A1-B1 with just two sticks

Hi,

There is nothing wrong with your motherboard, you are generating your own issues :

- A1 and B1 can only be used in a quad memory sticks configuration (it's in your manual) :

MoKiChU_0-1729849919716.png

- 2 kits of 2 memory sticks must not be combined/mixed to be used in a quad memory sticks configuration, you must have a native kit of 4 memory sticks binned for that : https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/intel-700-600-series/don-t-combine-memory-kits-the-meat-and-potatoes-o....

But I have same brand kits with everything same (CMP64GX5M2B6000C30 ) ... mfd just 1-2 months apart... actually I couldnt get any quad kit of 32GB that y i chose 2 kits of exactly same config) ... is it still incomatible ?

Even though the first kit and the second kit have exactly the same part number and were purchased at the same time, they were not binned for quad memory sticks configuration. However without XMP (so at JDEC frequencies), this should not be a problem.

I kept it simple and installed all 4 (in pair as dual)...  I have finally got stability with 5600mhz at 1.4v with all four sticks .... checked memtest86 ... it passed 2 test (didnt wait for all 4) ... will wait for further Bios updates before trying 5800 or 6000 but wont go beyond 1.4v ... but may be I will keep it at 5600 until my next upgrade after 4-5 years....

Hello @anupam_luv

In addition to the recommended memory configurations listed in the user manual, we also suggest referring to the ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI II’s QVL, where "CMP64GX5M2B6000C30" is specified as a two-module kit:

Additionally, based on the "purchasing and installation guide" on the same page, we recommend not mixing different memory kits, as this may lead to potential compatibility or stability issues:

Ensure that all memory modules are from the same validated memory kit. Do not mix DIMMs from different memory kits—even if they are the same brand and model (e.g., two DIMMs each from two different memory kits). Mixing and matching DIMMs can result in a failure to boot and compatibility issues. In particular, the stability of a system with mixed DIMMs cannot be guaranteed when XMP (Intel)/D.O.C.P (AMD)/EXPO (AMD)/AEMP/AEMPII is enabled. For example, enabling XMP (Intel)/D.O.C.P (AMD)/EXPO (AMD)/AEMP/AEMPII to speeds above DDR5 4800MHz or above DDR4 3200MHz could result in an unstable system.

Thank you.

Whn can i expect or rather Whn this kit (CMP64GX5M2B6000C30) likely to be included in this QVL list?.... many ppl who diectly upgraded from 9-10th Gen to 14h should be getting the same problem?

Hello @anupam_luv

While "CMP64GX5M2B6000C30" is indeed on the Memory QVL, installing memory modules from different kits (even if they have the same model and specifications) can lead to compatibility issues during operation, especially when applying overclocked memory settings.
For this reason, we recommend against mixing memory kits.

Thank you.
