Hi all,
i am new to this forum and i am building my first pc.
Yesterday arrived my cpu 9800X3D, which i installed in my X870E-E motherboard, also installed my Kit of 2 RAMs (Kingston Fury KF560C36BBEAK2-64, as listed in the QVL) and also have an empty Samsung 990 Pro 4TB installed. The motherboard is powered by a Seasonic PX Vertex-1200 psu.
The motherboard is not mounted to a case, no graphic card installed, nothing.
I powered up the psu, the ROG logo lights up on the mb, then i press the start button on the mb.
Don't know if it does matter, some q-codes are just lit up for very short time, and the q-code scenario is as followed.
LCD starts with 00, next 46 some miliseconds later, between the change from 00 to 46 you can see C1, then also very quickly, you can see it on video almost only the q-code changes from 46 to 00(?, maybe just changing number), then d2, then 00, then to q-code 15 and it stays here for about 30 seconds, or sometimes less and the the motherboard shuts off.
All the time the RAM LED is orange, after the q-code 15 comes up, the RAM RGB light starts do his thing and after a few seconds the mb shut off. Just the ROG logo is still glows. No to use the start button again i have to switch off/on the psu, then i can start the same process again.
I tried Bios updates/downgrade (1003, 1001, 0606) , cleared CMOS a couple oft times, changed RAM slots, also tried just one RAM and the other.
The only thing is different, without any RAM the mb shows q-code 10, but also shut off after approx. 30 seconds or maybe less.
The psu is connected to the motherboard via the 24pin and the cpu 8-pin cable. Something i missed?
I also reseated and investigated the cpu and the pins, but couldn't see anything. Without cpu the board does not start. I also tried to remove the ssd, with no results.
Any idea what could be the problem? Did i miss something?
The psu has a tester, with this the psu runs and runs.
As it is my first build ever, i first wanted to test ist just with cpu, psu, ram and empty ssd. And because of that i have no other parts to test or exchange.
I have no keyboard connected and also cannot go into bios or setup to change some settings.
There must be a way to test the motherboard outside a case and without windows installed, right? Just to test the components?
Thanks very much for any post, question and suggestions.

Hi all,
a motherboard should be able to test with cpu, ram and psu only right?
Is it possible that the cpu is getting to hot, because i have no cpu cooler? I measured up to 50-55 degree celscius at the rear of the cpu, before it shut down. Could it be a temperature issue?
But i read that temperatures between 50-60 degrees celsius are normal at idle, and up to 90 degrees celsius at full throttle.
Did a Bios downgrad to 0223 and now back to 1003, results are the same... 😞

Hi all,
i had contact with the asus support and after all explanations they recommended to go to my retailer.
I have a retailer store in town and will go there next week, hope we can find out if the cpu or mb is the problem or maybe even there is an error 40 🤣

Hello @President
Thank you for reaching out to us. We apologize for the delayed response due to a public holiday in our region and any inconvenience this may have caused.
At the time the issue occurred, could you confirm which memory slot your module was installed in? If you install a single memory module in the DIMM_A2 slot, are you able to boot successfully?
Based on your follow-up details, since this is a newly purchased product and you have already attempted multiple configurations and installation checks, we recommend considering reaching out to your reseller for further assistance.
Thank you.

Hello @Jiaszzz_ROG
It doesn't boot in any configuration. No memory modules, one memory module in any slot, two memory modules in any slot and configuration.
As the local retailer will charge money for testing the hardware i send the motherboard and the cpu back as damaged.
I got a new cpu alread, but waiting for the new or checked motherboard.
For testing a motherboard outside a case, especially the X870E-E, you need just a cpu the power supply for the mainboard and cpu, right?
Additional memory modules are great, but for testing not really necessary, right? That's it, or do i miss something?

Okay, it is working now! I can boot, first ever pc build!
Motherboard was changed (rma), cpu was changed (rma), psu was changed (rma).
I was still investigating... then i read the manual letter by letter, if i forgot something, any additional cable, what ever....
Then i read the important note, "IMPORTANT! Install a heatsink or AIO cooler after installing the CPU"!
I ordered an AIO cooler, as my psu arrived today i installed everything... and see, pc is booting.
Just for the record, no one answered my questions if a cpu cooler is really needed, even the ASUS Support just recommended a cpu cooler.
So there are two possible causes now.
1. The psu was faulty, because it is the last part i changed, and i don't want to try it without a cooler again.
2. It was a temperature problem of the cpu or motherboard, that got overheaten without the cooler.
I guess it was a temperatue problem, because it varies in time and pauses.
Hope this also helps other first pc builders.
