ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F performance loss after BIOS update

Level 8

I've paired this motherboard with a 7800X3D and G.Skill 32GB DDR5 6000MHz CL30 Trident Z5 Neo RGB. Up until now I had BIOS version 1807 installed but after all this talk about AMD related vulnerabilities I decided to flash to version 2412. Unfortunately I noticed that my CPU would no longer boost to the usual 5050MHz in CPU intensive games like Baldur's Gate 3 or New World. Even less CPU intensive games like Last Epoc would only show me CPU package boosts to 4850-4900MHz at most. I've not changed anything else than disabled Armoury Crate in BIOS and used the ASUS Uninstall tool to remove it as I don't use this app at all.

I've played around with Curve Optimizer and managed to get -30 all core it stable in games with a 85C ceiling which gave me my boost to 5000-5050MHz back. Still, it would be nice to know why this happened and if it's a good idea to flash to 2413, which only has a fix for 8000-series CPUs. Also, would Load Optimized Defaults in BIOS help?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Astralen, glad I found this post because I was thinking about updating my bios after I built my new PC last week. Current version is 1807 and I have the same components as you. Im sorry I cant help you with your problem but do you recomment a software beside Armoury Crate? I also dont use it at all and its really annoying...

Hey tktiger.

No problem. Regarding Armoury Crate, well it depends what you need. If it's simple GPU/CPU monitoring while playing then MSI Afterburner is a good option.

Short answer and most honest - who knows.  If the AGESA has changed there's thousands of registers that can get modified by AMD which can have an impact on boost behaviour. At least you were able to retain frequency by undervolting the V/F curve. If enough people ask then I can put it under the teams nose, but the behaviour tends to change quite frequently.

Thank you.

We'll see if posts like this start popping up or not.

By the way, did you know if Load Optimized Defaults is a good idea or not after flashing?
