ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming Wifi RAM Issue

Hi all,

I have just upgraded an old PC with some new parts. It's specs are as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Cooler: NZXT Kraken 240

MOBO: Asus ROG Strix B650E-F

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory

EDIT: New RAM model - CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM RGB DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 6000MHz CL36 Intel XMP  - Black (CMT32GX5M2X6000C36)

Storage: Samsung 990 Pro M.2

GPU: XFX THICC II Radeon RX 5500 XT

PS: Gigabyte UD850GM 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Solid specs if you ask me, but I'm running into a problem I've never had before. My computer, though boots into Windows and runs well for a while, eventually clocks out the memory availability at 99%. Keep in mind it's 32 GB. The irony is real...

I've tried a few things. I updated the BIOS, checked the connections on the board, double checked the CPU and it's pins, etc. I've tracked the memory usage through the performance monitor and have been monitoring the resource usage through windows software. Im convinced there's a memory leak, but I have no clue how to solve this without wiping the computer and reinstalling windows (pretty sure it's a software thing). I'm at a loss. Has anyone else dealt with this problem before and can give your advice or guidance on what to do?

Thank you!

Hi @Isaacdorio

Sounds most likely to be a memory leak. Within Task Manager, are you not able to see the process responsible?

It is a memory leak, and no I cannot see the cause of it in task manager. Any suggestions?

Hi @Isaacdorio , which version of Windows are you using? What did you upgrade or change? Do you see any errors in Windows Event Viewer? After the hardware change, is your Windows still showing as Activated? Are you using a genuine Windows installation media that you downloaded yourself from Microsoft website or where did your Windows Installation Media come from?

Also, what do you mean by  "eventually clocks out the memory availability at 99%"? Do you mean, Windows give you an Out of Memory error and shuts down? Do you see any slowness before this clock out happens? Can you anticipate and check Task Manager before you lose the ability?

Hi,

Thanks you for the reply. I double checked the model number of my RAM and I (stupidly) bought the wrong RAM which is incompatible with the MOBO. I'm returning it and buying new RAM that should be compatible.

Thank you for the help!

So, just replaced RAM with one that is compatible...and still running into the same problem.

To answer your questions, I am running windows 11. It's a genuine copy carried over from my old licensed windows 10. I installed it from Microsoft website's media creation tool. I've run Windows memory diagnostics and mem86 which both come back clean. The event viewer shows no errors and the only real trouble I've encountered is a maxed out RAM usage and a really slow PC.

Maybe it's time to just bite the bullet and reinstall windows? I can't see any other solution here. It's not the hardware.

Yes, replacing the RAM wasn't necessary. Check the processes tab when the behaviour starts. If you're unable to find it here, consider reinstalling the OS.

Hi,

So I did what you said, but I was unable to see the process causing the problem. I reinstalled the OS (wiped the drive entirely) but am still encountering the problem. Maybe it is a hardware issue after all. Is there a way to troubleshoot something like this?

Thanks

Hello, @Isaacdorio

Generally, when encountering high memory usage issues, you can free up memory by closing applications or disabling specific services.
After reinstalling the system, does the issue still persist with Task Manager showing memory usage remaining at 99%?
When this issue occurs, have you installed any software or drivers yet?
Could you please share complete screenshots of the Task Manager > Processes with sorting the applications or services by memory usage?
Meanwhile, please refer to the related discussion: High ram usage while idle on a windows 11 pc if needed.

Thank you.

Hi @Isaacdorio ,

Are you still having issues or you were able to resolve them? It has been a while since we heard from you. I am hoping things have become better and you are happy with it.
