Asus Dark Hero z790 bios update

Phunction

Hi, I have an issue with doing bios updates on this board. It will update fine, but everytime I update it, I have to remove my RTX 3090 video card in order to get it to boot to bios again, then I can shut if off, insert the card and it will boot. A real pain to do this everytime there is an update.

Hello @Phunction

Thank you for reaching out to us.
May I kindly ask which BIOS version you updated from and to?
Could you please provide the full brand of your GPU, as well as the slot it is currently installed in? Are you using any adapters or extension cables for the GPU connection? What happens if you attempt to update the BIOS without removing the GPU?
We would appreciate it if you could provide a more detailed description of the issue and the circumstances under which it occurs, so that we can better understand the anomaly you are experiencing.

Thank you.

It is with every bios update as they come out.

The udpates always go in fine, I just had to remove the card to get to the bios screen.

I did find that I can just unplug the power from the video card and move the hdmi cord over to the boards built in hdmi to get back to bios, save, shutdown and reconnect the video card which will then boot normally.

Hello @Phunction

Thank you for your update.
Based on your description, may we confirm whether a black screen occurs if the GPU is not removed after finishing the BIOS update process?
Additionally, please refer to the BIOS manual and help verify whether setting Primary Display to [PCIE] and iGPU Multi-Monitor to [Disabled] in the BIOS prior to the update helps prevent the issue.

Thank you.
