Asus B650e-i Flashback LED Startup Problem

Hey, I have the following Problem:

Out of a sudden, without any changes, my system is not starting up properly anymore. It worked for over half a year without any problems, until two days ago:

  • If I wanted to turn on the PC, it didn't start or boot.
But the Flashback LED on the IO-Rear was blinking slowly.

  • Yesterday I recognized that I can bring the PC to boot, if I follow these steps:
    1. Turn of the PSU
    2. Wait until the Audio Jack LEDs unlit (so until no more power source is available)
    3. Turn on the PSU
    4. Push the Power Button before the first blinking of the Flashback LED on the rear start to happen. (approx. 1-2 seconds)

So I made a new USB Stick with the current 2214 version of BIOS and plugged in the USB Stick exactly at that time frame between PSU Power on (Step 3) and Flashback LED blinking.

It worked. BIOS 2214 is running on my B650e-i now. It posts and the build is functioning.

But the problem with no boot still persists, if I am not following the exact steps I mentioned before:

  1. Turn of the PSU
  2. Wait until the Audio Jack LEDs unlit (so until no more power source is available)
  3. Turn on the PSU
  4. Push the Power Button before the first blinking of the Flashback LED on the rear start to happen. (approx. 1-2 seconds)
  5. Boot success.

If I wait too long and the Flashback LED start to blink, pushing the POWER Button has no effect.

I already deassembled and reassambled the whole build. No effect.

Hello c0c01

Some are saying enabling ErP Ready (S4+S5) in the bios solved this particular issue for them.

Ok, I am confosued. This actually might have worked.

The Audio Jack LEDs now cleared after shutting down the PC by hand and I can start the PC normally. Does not change the fact, that they might be a bug or issue without it.

Thank you!

Thanks for your response!

Sadly this does not change anything. The blinking on Flashback LED still occurs after turning off and the PC won't start unless I follow the procedure explained in my post above.

Hello, @c0c01

Could you specify which BIOS version it was updated from to reach 2214?
After completing the BIOS update, does clearing CMOS help resolve the issue?
Or is it still necessary to switch the PSU off and press the power button before the BIOS Flashback LED begins flashing again to power on?
During the failure to boot, are there any Q-LED indicators on continuously?
If possible, could you provide a comprehensive video recording of the issue to help us better understand your situation?

Thank you.

  • I updated from version 1818. But the problem appeared with version 1818 too.
  • I did clear CLRTC multiple times without any impact.
  • Clearing CMOS with a battery reset seems not possible, because the battery is located under the motherboards construction.
  • No, there are no Q-LED indicators. It does not even come to that point, that Q-LED indicators appear, because there is no reaction after pressing the power button at all.

Hello, @c0c01

Could you help in confirming the following information to facilitate further verification of this issue?
- You mention that this anomaly occurred "two days ago."
Before this anomaly occurred, were there any software or hardware changes? For example, BIOS updates, Windows updates, or connecting external devices.
- Could you provide a comprehensive video recording?
The recording should include the inability to boot after adjusting to the default BIOS settings, with the BIOS Flashback LED flashing and requiring switching the PSU switch to power on.
Then, re-enter the BIOS, enable, and save the ErP Ready (S4+S5) setting. After shutting down, it can start normally without switching the PSU switch.
- After completing the recording, could you try re-flashing the 2214 BIOS once again and see if the issue can be resolved under the default BIOS settings?

Thank you.

Hello @c0c01

Have you found a working solution for this issue?

My motherboard is different (ROG STRIX B650E-F GAMING WIFI) but I have exactly the same problem, I've done all the same troubleshooting steps but nothing helps. It also started happening out of no where without physically even touching my PC. At least your workaround does let me boot into windows, but it's annoying to do that every time.

Thank you.
