ArmourySocketServer.exe crashes

Since September 28th, 2024, 11:26 a.m., I've found several of these messages in the Windows 11 reliability history.

28.09.2024.jpg29.09.2024.jpg

They appear every time I start my PC after a while.

It's always the same error:

Fehlerdetails.jpg
I have no idea what's going on again.
ArmouryCrate works, but these error messages are really annoying.
I haven't changed anything on my PC.

I just downloaded Armoury Crate updates yesterday, which were displayed:

Armoury Crate is currently v. 5.9.9.0:

I'll keep an eye on it, but I think it's Asus' fault that no connection can be established through this service, even though there is internet access.
I've never had this error before.

Edit:

ArmourySocketServer.exe is also running according to the task scheduler:

I have no idea what is causing this error since yesterday.

The error already appeared with UEFI/Bios 2503 yesterday and also after the update to UEFI/Bios 2602 BETA on September 28, 2024, 1:04 p.m.
So it is not the UEFI of the mainboard.

I didn’t change anything in my pc.
It happened right after I installed all the recommended updates in Armoury Crate.

Any help welcome.

Hello @sv8ho

Thank you for sharing that you are experiencing a similar issue.
Could you please refer to the above instructions and also provide Armoury Crate log files and a screenshot of the Armoruy Crate update center?
Please help confirm are the hardware specifications consistent with the description in your signature and what is the brand and model of the PSU currently installed.

Thank you.

Hello @Pekmez_Pita

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Besides the error messages, are there any other abnormalities in usage?
Please share the following information to help us further report and investigate:
- The screenshot of the Armoruy Crate update center
- The BIOS version and the content of the settings in the BIOS (or whether it is the default)
- The brand and model name of the CPU, DRAM, GPU, and PSU currently installed
- The OS version and OS build
Thank you.

Hello @Jiaszzz_ROG

Thank you for your help!

I have sent you a PM with all the info you requested.

As I wrote in my message, I suspect that something might have changed with the Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5043145) installed on 27/9/24, since the crashes started right the next day, on 28/9/24.

Best regards

Yep. Same here. Started on the 28th. I have a TUF Gaming Z790-Plus Wifi.

Judging by my system's reliability history, it only happens when i shut down the computer.

Screenshot 2024-10-01 173158.png

I observed it today.

In fact, when the PC is shut down, this error message appears in the reliability history.
The error has been occurring since September 28, 2024. Possibly caused by an update to ArmouryCrate.
It looks like Windows cannot terminate this service/task when shutting down.
The exception code and error offset are identical for us. The timestamp too.
The error is probably on Asus' side and an update to ArmouryCrate messed something up.

But ArmouryCrate etc. can be used without any problems.
As I found out on the Internet, this ArmourySocketServer.exe is part of the Aura software to control the RGB of the hardware.

Hello @inge70
Thank you for reaching out to us, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused by the delayed reply.
In addition to the record of ArmourySocketServer.exe stopping in the reliability history, have you noticed any other abnormalities, such as Aura Sync devices not syncing or issues with the RGB lighting on the devices?
Based on your description, it seems difficult to pinpoint the exact scenario of the issue. If possible, please record and provide the relevant logs for us to verify further.
For log operation steps, please refer to "Q5: What is App Diagnostics? (New Feature)" and ensure that you have checked the "Record Log" option before proceeding with the steps to replicate the issue.
Additionally, could you please let me know your current OS build version, if the hardware specifications are consistent with your signature, or are there any other changes?

Thank you.

Hello Jiaszz-ROG,

The only crash that occurred in the reliability history was ArmourySocketServer.exe, as mentioned above and shown in the screenshot. This occurred for the first time on 09/28/2024. There were no other errors related to ArmouryCrate or AuraSync etc.

ArmouryCrate works fine for me too. The RGB's are synchronized as I set it to.

What I noticed is that the crash of this ArmourySocketServer.exe is probably triggered when the PC is shut down. It's as if Windows can't perform the task properly.

I can't say why this happens.

I enabled log recording and shut down my PC once.

After a few minutes, I restarted and the ArmourySocketServer.exe crash was back in the reliability history. The error information is identical to that in my previous post.

There is only this entry for this file in the reliability history and in the event log.

It shouldn't be Windows itself, because when this crash message first appeared, nothing was installed via Windows Update or anything else. Why this suddenly happened, since September 28, 2024, is a mystery to me.

The error occurred for the first time on September 28, 2024 under Windows 11 23H2 Build 22631.4249.
The error is also present again in the current Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.1882.

I will send you the data for my motherboard and via PM.
There is no video, because there are no abnormalities when using the PC. So the video would not show anything that could have anything to do with the ArmourySocketServer.exe crash.

Hello @inge70

Thank you again for your prompt response.
I have received your log file and DM information, and I've forwarded them to our relative team for further investigation.
We appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Thank you.

Hello @Pekmez_Pita

Thank you for your swift response.
I have reviewed the information you shared in DM and added it to the relevant case as a reference for similar issues.
The Armoury Crate log can also capture potential issues during shutdown.
Could you please follow the steps previously suggested, start logging before shutdown, and after confirming in the reliability history that there's a record of "ArmourySocketServer.exe stopped working" after booting, generate the log file and share it with me?

Thank you.
