5070 ti on x470-f gaming working only with PCIE Gen 1

My new Palit 5070 ti GamingPro on my ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING is working only with PCIE set to Gen 1 and it's killing the performance.

Setting to Gen 3 or Auto causes instant freeze when the nVidia driver loads.

It doesn't freeze without drivers or in Windows Safe Mode.

Is the board or the card faulty?

I have the same issue on a Crosshair VI Hero with an RTX 5070.

If the card runs on Auto or PCIE Gen 3, the Computer crashes @ the same situation.

I thought it was the Card, change it @ the Store and get the same error again.

With my old card, RTX 2080, everything runs fine @ PCIE 3.0 x16

Actually i set the PCIE Gen to 2 and it runs.

I think nothing of our Hardware is faulty, its a BIOS/UEFI Problem.

I hope for a new Bios with an Bugfix.

I'm in contact with the GPU manufacturer and we're looking into the issue.
It's 90% a configuration (mobo/gpu bios) issue.
Will post an update soon

Manufacturer doesn't have a solution as the card already has the latest bios.
I just bought a new MoBo and if it doesn't work on that one as well i'll just return everything

Well, thats g*y.

But i think its a MoBo Bios problem.

If i run the Card on PCIE 3.0 the board shows Errorcode 8 (CPU Error / Voltage Error)

Well, thats Bull****** cause the error Appears on Uefi stock Config and my OC config aswell. So on my Enermax Revolution 87+ PSU and my new Enermax Revolution III.

I started a reddit thread as well and a guy managed to make it work:

Even though it didn't work for me you might be more lucky

Hello @giac and @Sunwalker1337

May I ask what the specifications of your PSU are after upgrading to the 5070 Ti, and whether the upgrade also included a higher wattage or improved model to meet the new power requirements?
If the issue with reduced performance persists, could you kindly provide the following information to assist us in further investigation?
- the images of the BIOS main page along with any manual configuration settings you may have applied
- The PSU, RAM model and part number, and two .txt files generated in your Windows system via the steps below:
1) Press WIN + R on your keyboard to open the Run dialog, and type dxdiag → click OK.
2) Click Save All Information and select a save location → click Save.
3) Repeat the same steps with msinfo32 to generate the second file.
- a comprehensive video recording of the issue. This may include the slot where the GPU is installed (please remove any riser cables or adapters if applicable), any manual BIOS adjustments made after clearing CMOS, the detected GPU link speed once the system has booted into the OS, and the results observed during stress testing with third-party software.

Thank you.

If you have read the Thread, you would know that we almost try the most of your Steps.

So we dont have reduced performance, our systems crashs if we use an higher PCIE specification.

The only reduce of performance, came from the lower PCIE Standards that we must use!

Cmos reset, Newest UEFI, i switch from an Emermax Revolution 87+ 850W to an Enermax Revolution III 1000W.

I write to your support, they also cant read as you and send me an video of a Running 5070 in the UEFI.

Well done Sir!

Again:

Our systems Crash at the point, where windows load the GPU Drivers, if PCIE 3.0 or at giac 4.0 is active. If we set it down to 2.0 at mine or 1.0 at giac, the system runs normal.

Ive testet Another 5070 GPUs than my MSI (ASUS and Zotac) too, same error.

Ive testet it on UEFI Stock settings, on a Clean and Fresh installed windows aswell.

I dont use any riser or something like that.

My board sends me always Q-Code errors, mostly 8 ... not 08. 8! After the crash.

Reset mostly dont work, the Screens do nothing or the Computer dont load the Postscreen.

So i have to plug power out and in again, go to UEFI, set PCIE from 3.0 or Auto to 2.0 and restart, load windows and everything runs completely fine!

I bought a new motherboard and everything is working perfectly now.

There is a bug either with ROG STRIX X470-F GAMING, GPU BIOS or nVidia drivers that makes the GPU freeze and black screen with PCIe 3

I get the same error on a B450 and an B550 of a friend of mine.

I'm really happy to hear that your new board is working for you.

I plan to upgrade, but to an X870 including a new CPU and RAM. That will be expensive and unfortunately has to wait for now.
