XG27AQDMG monitor scaling and DP sleep issues(?)

emiljensen2

Hello

When playing cs2 in a non native resolution and having scaling set to be performed on the monitor there's random black screens. It does take a little bit to get video when launching/tabbing but it does work

When setting perform scaling to GPU however cs2 never really opens. This seems to be caused by the monitor not having a setting to disable DP deep sleep / it killing the signal to the computer instantly, as whenever you launch/tab into cs2 the monitor seemingly disconnects "Displayport no signal" from the computer and it just never comes ingame, it just constantly flashes on and off, sometimes it'll show up on another monitor. Probably because it can't find the monitor it's supposed to display on.

If you set DP to 1.2, disable DSC, or HDMI you can have gpu scaling, but then you're missing out on 240hz or 10bit color.

If you set your desktop to same resolution as ur stretched csgo resolution it still doesn't work. (fullscreen)

My old PG27QM had an option to disable DP deep sleep, but that's not an option on this monitor so I'm unsure if maybe that's the potential issue together with DSC causing alt tabs/launching the game to take longer.

Hi @emiljensen2 ,

Regarding the screen flickering issue you're experiencing, we would like to gather more details about your setup to assist you better:

  1. Scaling settings: Could you please elaborate on the "scaling settings on the display causes random black screens in games" and "scaling settings on the GPU prevents games from starting"? Where exactly are you adjusting these settings? Is it in the display settings, NVIDIA Control Panel, or within the games themselves? A video recording (MP4 format) of these steps would be very helpful for us to understand the issue.
  2. Game lag: Regarding the video lag you mentioned when launching games or switching tabs, could you please confirm if this happens in all games? A video recording of this issue in different games would be helpful for us to clarify the problem.
  3. Display firmware: Please check if your display's firmware has been updated to the latest version MCM104. If not, please visit the ASUS official website to download and install the latest firmware.
  4. DP deep sleep: Regarding the DP deep sleep setting, if your display does not have this option, please check the related options in your display settings, such as "auto input detection" and "power saving mode". If you have enabled auto input detection, could you please confirm if the signal still disconnects when you start a game?

Providing the above information will help us identify the root cause of the problem more quickly.

Thank you.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

1.  It is within the nvidia control panel, Display > Adjust desktop size and position, then perform scaling on dropdown.

I tried uploading mp4 but it's too big, I've shared it on streamable https://streamable.com/4swcpe https://youtu.be/OPeaklLrHO0

2. trackmania and battlefield 2042 does open, but it opens on 2/3 of the monitor instead of fullscreening.

Counter strike source emits same issue.

Doom eternal does seemingly open but the screen stays fully black, and u can't open the screen OSD or do anything. I actually had to power cycle the monitor for doom.

3. Yes I'm on MCM104

4. I have auto input enabled, and power saving mode disabled (standard mode). Also tried with auto input disabled.

same issue here, just bought the monitor this week and the only way no to have the black screen during the game for 2sec seems to have it on GPU scaling full screen, but then the alt-tab issue comes when all stuff shifts to other monitors its driving me nuts

I had the same issue. I think this is a bandwidth issue to be honest. I am not able to run 10bit on 2K@240Hz. DSC is not kicking in and I get the occasional black screen when playing CS2.
I can't even activate Scaling on GPU with 10bit enabled. As soon as I switch back to 8bit, everything works perfect.

you can find Video Bandwidth Calculator on the Internet to see if you are exceeding DisplayPort 1.4 limits.
I am a bit sad, as it is advertised aggressively on the box that it supports 10bit, but it breaks the limit at 240Hz 😞

So, since this is a bandwidth issue, we can either run 10bit at around 200Hz, or  8 bit at 240Hz.
