XG27AQDMG 180Hz mode is broken

RealNC
Level 7

In all firmware version so far, including MCM104, the 180Hz mode is broken. At least with an Nvidia GPU. When G-SYNC is enabled in the Nvidia control panel, when switching to 180Hz the display will start duplicating frames. Moving the mouse cursor fast on the desktop will result in this pattern:

RealNC_0-1736599499665.png

Every third frame or so is shown twice. Also, when playing a game with G-SYNC, there is judder, meaning VRR does not work correctly in this mode. Furthermore, every other correctly working mode (240Hz, 144Hz, 120Hz, 60Hz) shows VRR flicker. 180Hz does not, which is a further indication that VRR is not actually working in this mode.

Please fix this in the next firmware.

Hi @RealNC ,

Based on the photos you provided, it appears to be multiple mouse cursor afterimages.

We recommend that you take the monitor to an official service center, where our engineers can inspect the actual condition of the device and provide further assistance.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you.

Official Support | ASUS Global

Every other person I know who has this monitor and is using an Nvidia GPU has the same exact problem with the 180Hz mode. It's not unique to me.

"After internal confirmation, the issue you're experiencing is caused by the graphics card being unable to provide a stable output on the OLED panel."

So... by your logic, our graphics cards can produce "stable framerate" on desktop(!) for 60, 120, 144 and 240Hz, but not for 180Hz? Something doesn't add up 🙂 Such a typical ASUS support response.
