In all firmware version so far, including MCM104, the 180Hz mode is broken. At least with an Nvidia GPU. When G-SYNC is enabled in the Nvidia control panel, when switching to 180Hz the display will start duplicating frames. Moving the mouse cursor fast on the desktop will result in this pattern:
Every third frame or so is shown twice. Also, when playing a game with G-SYNC, there is judder, meaning VRR does not work correctly in this mode. Furthermore, every other correctly working mode (240Hz, 144Hz, 120Hz, 60Hz) shows VRR flicker. 180Hz does not, which is a further indication that VRR is not actually working in this mode.
Please fix this in the next firmware.

Flickering issue? There's no flicker.

I asked someone I know who has the same monitor, and the 180Hz mode is also broken for them when g-sync is enabled in the nvidia control panel. This is not an issue specific to me only.

Hi @RealNC ,
You mentioned that "The XG27AQDMG monitor has issues in 180Hz refresh rate mode, including screen duplication and VRR function failure.
Additionally, in other refresh rate modes (240Hz, 144Hz, 120Hz, 60Hz), the VRR function flickers." To further investigate the issue, could you please record the occurrence of the issue and provide it to us in an MP4 file?
Additionally, please respond to the six questions I previously asked to assist the team in analyzing and confirming the issue.
We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
Thank you.

You can use the VRR flicker video file from the RTINGS review, since I get exactly the same behavior on my unit. The MP4 file is here: https://files.catbox.moe/ko0we9.mp4
The RTINGS review page showcasing the VRR flicker of this monitor can be found here: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/asus/rog-strix-oled-xg27aqdmg#test_24453

Hi @RealNC ,
thank you for your patience.
After internal confirmation, the issue you're experiencing is caused by the graphics card being unable to provide a stable output on the OLED panel.
Due to the varying brightness levels at different refresh rates on OLED panels, this leads to visible flickering.
Currently, the manufacturing technology of OLED panels cannot compensate for the flickering caused by unstable graphics card output.
This is a common issue with OLED displays across other brands as well.
To mitigate this, we recommend lowering certain settings in the game, such as texture details, animation effects, or turning off VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), which can help ensure stable output from the graphics card.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

That's nice and all, but the issue I reported is not the VRR flicker. I reported that the 180Hz mode doesn't work correctly. You were then asking me for more information about the flicker, which is not what my original post is about.
The 180Hz mode is simply broken and you need to fix it in a firmware update. I provided all necessary information about it in the very first post in this thread.

Hi @RealNC ,
We understand the issue you are experiencing, where enabling G-SYNC and switching to 180Hz mode causes certain frames to be repeatedly displayed.
Our team is currently investigating this issue, and we appreciate your patience while we work on it.
We will provide updates as soon as we have more information. Thank you for your understanding and support!
