I've had  LG 27GR95QE OLED that had decent HDR but dim screen and coating wasn't the best. Also tested my A90K with PC and compared to 34WCDM HDR looks a lot better in games.

I think there are ASUS specific issues like lens flare, surfaces where the light hits, and human skin that are problematic. I checked out LG OLED demo with PG34WCDM it looks good and the beta firmware event made it pop even more. However when playing games it doesn't look anything remotely like that. So not sure where the problem lies. Maybe monitor doesn't handle some color space well in HDR. I hope ASUS can figure it out.

I got my monitor as a gift and won't be returning mine and there aren't any good alternatives for me anyway.

I remember seeing how the 34 and 39 were when they were announced and shown early on and how great they look which made me want one and I've seen so many reviews on the 34 when it came out and I don't remember see a single review say anything bad on how the HDR looked. Didn't really see anything until I had issues and then starting looking around the net and seeing a bunch of others complaining about HDR with OLED.  Being there are really only a couple panels out there being made I'd like to wonder what or who is the issue. The washed out look is a bit odd and I've seen some LCD's that can look like that but the human skin issue you seen is what I'm seeing also is one of the more annoying problems that is just really bad.

While not a 100% fix, I found using icc profile "srgb_to_gamma2p2" can make HDR look a bit more rich and less washed out. Specifically I'm using "srgb_to_gamma2p2_300_mhc2.icm", this will also set the max nits to 800.

Profiles and additional info can be found here: https://github.com/dylanraga/win11hdr-srgb-to-gamma2.2-icm

I really hope that Asus can get their act together with the firmware for this monitor. I have seen what they are capable when they try with the PG32UCDP (Also an MLA+ WOLED) and that looks absolutely amazing in comparison to this monitor.

I'll have to check this out and I do hope Asus fixes this and I've been going back and forth with tech support but now it's been over a week since I've had an update from them. I'm at the point of sending the replacement back to Newegg which is a shame because I wanted to like this monitor. It looks fine in SDR mode but then what's the point for HDR if it doesn't work.

I bought my pg39wcdm about a month ago now, I use it daily side by side with a samsung 34 ultrawide hdr oled monitor from 2023. So I can compare the oled and hdr directly.. This Asus pg39wcdm's "hdr" is honestly so bad compared. Colours are not as vivid and is more washed out. I read and watched reviews praising this monitor's hdr quality before buying. It makes me wonder if Asus factory swaps out components for cheaper garbage after the review periods are over to save money because I cannot believe this can be the same monitor these reviewers call a great quality hdr oled.

I'm wondering the same thing, how were there a reviews for the 34 and 39 and not one of them said anything about the HDR being bad. Did Asus send out some special models with firmware for reviews that wasn't meant for the public everyday use?

I've been checking PG34WCDM reviews to find clues and only HDTVTest review mentions some problems with HDR.

It's pretty ridiculous these OLED monitors are pushed as flagships and they seemed to release later than expected and yet they can't fix the problem correctly. Asus support has ghosted me and it's been almost a month since the last email saying they would contact me, glad they got my back for all the products and support I've given them over the years.

Small update after contacting product support wondering  what was going on since they didn't reply for a month and I received this today.

We're currently awaiting for the firmware that will be addressing your concern. Our advanced technical team plans to have it released this month. We are hoping for your patience and understanding on this matter while we keep asking them for updates.

Thanks so much for staying on their case. I noticed the 34" version has had a couple of firmware updates yet none for the 39", very curious to see if it makes the difference as soon as the firmware update is available.
