PG34WCDM USB and HDR issue

Cybermann
Level 9

Hello ASUS! I really like the monitor you have built but it has issue with USB and HDR.

The USB issue:

  • I connect monitor to PC with either USB 3.1 or USB 3.2 - USB works fine.
  • Computer goes to sleep state and I wake it up I get USB unrecognized error.
  • I've same thing with my desktop and 2 other laptops with the same result.
  • I have RMA my old monitor and when I got new one it had same exact problem right out of the box.
  • I have tried it with MCM102 and MCM104 monitor firmware and had same result.
  • When connecting monitor to USB 2.0 it has no errors but I can't use devices to wake up PC.

Now the HDR issue.

I have same problem with many games all same issue of posterization around bright lights and surfaces that light shines on. Take a look this Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III photo. Not only it has posterization around lamp but also on the wall.

It's really hard to capture screenshot since it's the monitor that does the picture. I have done HDR screenshot and on my monitor it looks like this (below) but when I look screenshot on my Sony OLED TV screenshot looks flawless.

What I have tried:

  • Console HDR and Gaming HDR modes.
  • Calibrated Windows HDR and game HDR by following instructions.
  • Brightness 90 and 100 do make a change but not meaningful and depends on the game. I have left brightness to 90 most of the time.
  • I have updated all my PC's drivers. Nvida drivers are always up to date.
  • Tried DP and HDMI cables no image difference. I preffere DP cable.
  • I have tried 2 monitors one before RMA and one replacement. Same issue right of the box.
  • Updated to new monitor firmware MCM104 - did not help.

My system is:
MB B550 AORUS PRO V2 (BIOS F17)
CPU 5800X3D
GPU AORUS RTX 4070Ti
RAM 32GB RAM
PSU Corsair RM850x

I don't think another RMA would help me solve the issues.

Hi @Aureliannn_ROG,

I have replyed to your private message and made video about the USB issue and test HDR with new firmware.

@Cybermann Did the new firmware work by fixing the posterization HDR issue?

@bigboy2k New firmware has very slightly improved on posterization but it still there and no improvement on "rings" or leyers of light around bright lights. It improves on better highlights as they pop more and image looks cleaner, but colors look pale and washed out.

Need to wait more for the HDR update. For now I'm going back to MCM104, since I liked anit-flicker option they introduced in that update.
