PG32UCDP Proximity Sensor bugged?

EthanJL721

I've had my PG32UCDP for about two weeks, and flashed MCM103 the day I got it.

Everything has been going great until today. Now the screen goes black but doesn't lose connection. Waving my hand in front of the Proximity Sensor allows the picture to come back. I've got it set to High for the furthest sensing distance and I haven't had any issues until today.

This happens on both my PC via DP, and my PS5 Pro via HDMI.

I tried restarting my PC, and PS5. I've toggled HDR, changed HDR settings, power cycled with the power button and unplugging the monitor, as well as performed an "ALL RESET" on the monitor to no avail. The only thing that seems to stop this from happening is disabling the Proximity Sensor entirely.

Is there something I can do to fix this? I really don't want to RMA the monitor, and I do like the functionality of the proximity sensor. Is there a beta firmware MCM104 available?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi @EthanJL721 ,

Regarding the black screen issue you're experiencing, we would like to gather more information. Please confirm the following:

  1. Firmware version: Does this issue only occur with firmware version 103? Does the problem persist if you update or downgrade the firmware?
  2. Connection cable: Have you tried using a different HDMI/DP cable to test?
  3. Indicator light status: What color is the display's indicator light when the screen goes black? Is the computer still running?
  4. Background running: Are background programs still running when the screen goes black? For example, is the sound still outputting?
To better understand the problem, we recommend that you record a video (MP4 format) of the screen going black and provide it to us.

Additionally, please provide the following equipment configuration information:

  • Computer model:
  • Graphics card model:
  • Versions of each driver: (Graphics card driver, chipset driver, etc.)
  • Operating system version:

Thank you.

Please note that response times may be delayed due to upcoming regional holidays. For urgent inquiries, please contact your local service center. Thank you for your patience.

I think I figured it out. The shirt I was wearing is very very black, darker black than the other clothes I usually wear. Reading the manual on the monitor, it states that the Proximity Sensor has issues with dark clothing. I hadn't worn this particular shirt since I bought the monitor, and after changing clothes it seems to be functioning as normal. 😅

Thanks for reaching out, I'm still looking forward to a new firmware for this monitor to fix the HDR behavior. Hopefully it's coming!
