PG32UCDP and Anti Flicker option

GRABibus
Level 10

I have the PG32UCDP.

concerning black screens, I have tested this on BO7.

if i enable Antiflicker to "High" setting (Vrr 160Hz-240Hz) :

4k@240Hz VRR/G Sync/HDR => Black screens duiring games (Erratic)

4k@240Hz VRR/G Sync/SDR => No black screens

2560x1440 @ 240Hz VRR/G Sync/HDR or SDR => No black screens

4k@240Hz VRR off/HDR => No black screens

If I set Anti flicker to "Medium" no more black screens, whatever the above testing scenario

9950X3D / RTX 4090 / 32GB DDR5 8200MT/s

DP 2.1 high bandwith certified cable between RTX 4090. and the monitor

Questions :

1/ Is anti flcker supposed yo work only at 2560x1440p240Hz and 1920x1080p@240Hz, or it it supposed to work at 4K@240Hz

2/ Are my findings could be due to DP 1.4 limitation bandwidht in this game ?

3/ Any other hypothesis or recommandations ?

i have made additionnal tests and, in fact, it seems Anti flicker is completely broken on this monitor.

I have tested in both BO6 and BO7 with different resolutions (2560x1440 and 4K), at 240Hz with HDR and SDR.

I played with the antiflicker setting and here are my findings :

If I set Antiflicker to "high" (Vrr scale if 160Hz-240Hz) :

If my fps in both games are below 160Hz consistenly, there is a black screen which will come.

If my fps in both games are beyond 160Hz consistently, no black screens.

This means clearly that if there is a black screen when fps are below 160Hz when Antiflicker setting is "high", then it means Antiflicker option doesn't work, because this is how it shoudl work, I mean, when fps is below 160Hz, this is the area where the antiflicker setting at "high" should play. It plays, but it generates black screen !

Can you please consider this ?

Due to this, I will probably get a refund of this monitor....But I would like this issue solved.

Hello Aurelianne, hello Silent Scone,

I have made a lot of tests.

It needs confrimation, but to summarize, here is what I observe :

Anti-Flicker - High + G-Sync = Black screens happen randomly for seconds at a time in game.

Anti-Flicker - Medium + G-Sync = No Issue with Black Screens (need more time to test)

Anti-Flicker - High + G-Sync off No Issue with Black Screens (need more time to test)

https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/1fm4wvg/asus_ucdp_antiflicker_settings_question/

Also here with another monitror, but seems the same issue :

https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-monitors/pg27ucdm-anti-flicker-high-setting-black-screens/td-p/...

My set up :

Asus Apex X870E Motherboard

9950X3D

32GB DDR5 8200MT/s Cl32

Tests conditions :

4k (Or 1440p)

240Hz

HDR Gaming mode

Brightness uniformity "on"

FW MCM106

Could you please give a feedback on this issue ? Can a new firmware takes this into consideration ?

Thank you.

Still no answers from ASUS here....😓

I just checked that ASUS already solved black screens issue like for example on the XG27ACDNG :

We would like to get the same for PG32UCDP !

Do you plan to, at least, acknowledge my request or will you not answer at all ?

ASUS, You are not interested in this topic ?

Hello @GRABibus ,
We have forwarded your reported issue to the relevant team for further investigation.

In the meantime, we kindly ask you to record a video (MP4 format) showing the full process of how the issue occurs.
A complete recording will greatly help our team analyze the root cause more efficiently.

Additionally, we would like to confirm:
Does this issue occur only on firmware version 106?
If you have tested other versions, please let us know as well.

Please also send us the monitor serial number (SN) via private message so we can provide the necessary information to the technical team.

Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Hello @Aureliannn_ROG

thank you for your reply.

1/ It is difficult quite impossible to take a video as it is not possible to know when this occurs.

It occurs in games, but alos often in games menu

2/ I didn't test on MCM103 firmware, but people are reporting the same issue before MCM106 release:

See link here :

3/ Please, check my hypothesis here and what I have observed and how this can be solved temporarely:

https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUS/comments/1j12jf3/comment/nr3vusi/?context=3

My hypothesis is that these black screens (Where some times video signal is completely lost) are kind of flickering.

I am sure this is due when fps are flucutating a lot, and when there are low, LFC is then working to set Vsync inside Vrr range.

This creates probably some spikes which are  creating video signal loss.

When option is medium, Vrr raneg is 80Hz-240Hz and then there are les chance that LFC is working because with a high end PC, you never have fps < 80.

But, in games menu, you can have big big fps fluctuations, this si a well known problem. This is why black screens occurs alos in games menu.

Thank you to provide this to your technical team.

I think the solution is to manage in a better way LFC when option is set to High (Vrr range = 160Hz_240Hz).

Please, note that i made a mistake in my first post.

I said no black screens in SDR. That is not true.

I said that no black screens at 2560x1440, that is not true.

It happens also.

Those black screens happen whatever SDR or HDR or whatezver 4K or 2560x1400 at 240Hz.

They happen when anti flicker option is set to "High".

Also I’d recommend using a ultra high speed hdmi but leave dsc on, and then you can use hdr dolby etc.
