PG32UCDP 1080p 480 Hz Mode Blurry - Needs Nearest Neighbor/Integer Scaling Option

MrEWhite
Level 10

By default, the PG32UCDP's display in it's 480 Hz mode is blurry because it's using bilinear scaling, or some other blurry form of upscaling. A nearest neighbor/integer scaling mode would work perfect as a 1080p pixel can fit perfectly in 4 4k pixels. Is there any way this can be added in a future firmware update?

Hi @MrEWhite ,

Thank you for providing information about the blurriness issue with your PG32UCDP monitor in 480Hz mode.

To better understand and resolve your issue, we would like you to provide a video recording of the problem so we can have a more visual understanding of the situation.

When recording the video, please pay attention to the following points:

  • Clarity: Please ensure that the video quality is clear and that the blurriness on the screen is clearly visible.
  • Operation process: Please record your entire computer operation process, including entering 480Hz mode and displaying the blurred screen.
  • File format: Please save the video in MP4 format for easy viewing.

Additionally, we would like to further confirm the following questions:

  1. Unique mode: Does this blurriness issue only occur in 480Hz mode? Does a similar issue occur when you switch the monitor to other refresh rates?
  2. Screen settings: The refresh rate is closely related to the aspect ratio. Please make sure that your current screen aspect ratio, refresh rate, and resolution comply with the recommendations in the product manual. You can refer to section "3.6 Supported operating modes" in the following link: PG32UCDP_UM_English.pdf (asus.com)
  3. Other software: Besides the current issue, have you encountered any other abnormalities when using current firmware? Which firmware version you're currently using?

Providing this information will help us more accurately identify the root cause of the problem, such as display settings, driver issues, or other factors.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

Tried my best to capture the difference between integer and what's currently in the monitor. You can see the integer through NVCP is noticeably more sharp compared to the 480 Hz mode. It’s not a technical flaw or a malfunction, it’s just that the best scaling mode isn’t at use here and should be an option.

It occurs in the High FPS 1080p mode at any refresh rate (60-480 Hz).

I’m in the standard 16:9 at full screen size in the pictures.

This occurs on MCM101 & 102.

Hi @MrEWhite ,

Thank you for your detailed description.

To assist you better, we would like to clarify a few details:

  1. Difference comparison: To understand your issue more clearly, could you please circle the parts in the provided images where you think the differences are most significant? This will help us locate the problem more quickly.
  2. Blur issue details: You mentioned that the blur issue occurs regardless of the refresh rate and only appears in 16:9 full-screen mode. Could you please elaborate on the type of blur you are experiencing? Is it a blurry image, jagged text edges, or other types of blur?
  3. Performance in other sizes: If you set the display to other sizes (such as 4:3 or 16:10), does the blur issue completely disappear?

Please provide more detailed information so that we can assist you more effectively.

Thank you.

Providing detailed device specifications (MB/CPU/GPU/PSU, etc.) and the respective driver versions, OS version, and BIOS version will help us analyze the issue more effectively.

This issue is the same on my and I'm guessing the same on every PG32UCDP. It's really hard to show the difference on photo, I don't have professional enough equipment. It's not a massive blur but it is there.

You can see the difference by putting the monitor (with Frame Rate Boost OFF) to 1920x1080 resolution in Windows and in either AMD or NVIDIA software you use integer scaling to fill the screen and it will perfectly upscale 1 pixel to a 2x2 pixel grid. So the monitor can technically do this. But with Frame Rate Boost ON in 1920x1080 there is a small (probably only 1 pixel wide) blur.

It is more noticeable if you enable the setting: Image > Aspect Control > 16:9 > Pixel by pixel and compare Frame Rate Boost ON and OFF at 1920x1080 for both.

Now on firmware 103.
