PG32UCDM: Video signal issues (White image flicker & black screens)

Hi,

I would like to point out a problem with the PG32UCDM. I have issues with the image signal on several units of the PG32UCDM. A white artifact often appears on the screen for a brief moment (one second), which I suspect, depending on the refresh rate, either only appears in the top right corner (120Hz) or the entire lower half of the screen (240Hz). Sometimes the monitors lose the signal completely for a brief moment. As soon as the signal comes back, the Dolby Vision logo appears again in the top right. I have experienced the problem with 3 PG32UCDM units (MCM105 & MCM106 firmware). The issue occurs randomly on one screen at a time. The problem occurs with the cables that came with the monitors and also when AMD FreeSync is disabled.
A Reddit user also reports he has the same issue with his unit. I have attached a picture from the Reddit user that shows the glitch. The Reddit user reports that he is experiencing glitches via HDMI1. For me, the issue occurs via DisplayPort (I rarely use HDMI, so I can't say whether the isue also occurs with my PG32UCDMs via HDMI). Both I and the Reddit user have Dolby Vision enabled. I also had the issues before the Dolby Vision update (MCM105). My PG32UCDMs are connected to an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX via DisplayPort. The Reddit user connected his PG32UCDM to an Xbox Series X via HDMI.

I don't want this thread to die cause I am having the same issue, same exact spot. I had my monitor set to Dolby Vision and after reading this thread, I just switched it back to HDR10 (I'm not actually using the HDR mode, but I still have that same upper right zone flash static). Doesn't matter what I'm doing with the monitor (browsing the web, gaming, watching videos), it always randomly flashed static in the upper right. Prior to today, I had tried both HDMI and Display Port and it static flash would happen regardless of connection method.

For me after several NVidia driver updates it happens les often now. It happens when HDR setting is on Dolby Vision even when HDR is off sometimes, if I set it on HDR10 it works fine. I strongly believe it's a DSC issue, Dolby Vision is more demanding than HDR10 for bandwidth I think and maybe the compression causing the issue sometimes randomly. I am waiting for an RTX 5080 to arrive and test it and I'll come back to you for update.

I am having this exact same issue. That small little window pops up very quickly, but it ruins immersion. The monitor is not even a month old and all firmware and drivers have been updated. I hope this is fixed soon, or i'm returning it.

Hi all,

Regarding the issue of white screen flickering in the top right corner when Dolby Vision is enabled, we have submitted the information to our backend team for verification. In the meantime, if you have a detailed video of the issue occurring or other methods to reproduce the issue, please provide them for our reference. Kindly provide the video in MP4 format.

We greatly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Thank you.

Hi Aureliannn_ROG,

Similar to some of the people here, it's hard to know when it will happen and capture it on video. If you look at the photos/videos that the OP showed, it is exactly the same behavior, in exactly the same location (a small square flashes quickly in the upper right made up multiple colors). It does seem to be tied to Dolby Vision, as others have noted.

Hi @ScaryBandana @oldhouse @mcfrank @JohnROG @Jabao18 @999jacky @placeboblack @Xhris ,

To better understand the issue you are experiencing, please perform the following test:
Please try disabling the "Use hardware acceleration when available" feature in your browser settings and check if the problem improves.
Google Chrome browser settings steps:

  1. Open the Google Chrome browser.
  2. Click the "More" icon (three vertical dots) in the upper right corner.
  3. Click "Settings".
  4. In the advanced items, click "System".
  5. Set "Use hardware acceleration when available" to off.

Microsoft Edge browser settings steps:

  1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser.
  2. Click the "More" icon (three vertical dots) in the upper right corner.
  3. Click "Settings".
  4. Click "System".
  5. Set "Use hardware acceleration when available" to off.

Please kindly perform the above test and let us know the test results.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Browser??? The original reported issue happens when playing on Xbox one series X, so no drivers or graphic cards or browsers involved.

just enable Dolby vision and issue is there, visible only if recording in slow motion (if you record in game content it won’t be visible, meaning it’s monitor related, and not source related)

The glitches occur even with hardware acceleration disabled in the browser (in my case, Microsoft Edge).

I've been using the three PG32UCDM monitors for the past few weeks with HDR10 selected as the HDR mode, during this time, the monitors worked without flickering. Now I've reselected Dolby Vision as the HDR mode, and the flickering started again. Even when HDR is disabled in Windows (using AMD Eyefinity, since Eyefinity doesn't support HDR), the flickering occurs.

I've noticed that the flickering only occurs when Dolby Vision is selected as the HDR mode in the monitor OSD, regardless of whether the source device has HDR enabled or even uses Dolby Vision (in my triple setup, it sometimes happens that one or more monitors fall back into HDR10 mode).

I've recently noticed that the problem is occurring more frequently with Wallpaper Engine in combination with a specific background.

I am confirming that switching back to hdr10 in the settings has seemingly fixed the issue for me. I gamed the last 2 nights without the static appearing.

To the rog rep, thank you for passing along. The images attached in the top post show it perfectly. Top right screen area, single frame of static flashes or the the whole screen loses signal to a second and then it returns to normal for like 15 mins before repeating. Hdr10 fixed the issue (so far) for me these last 2 days even though I don't use the HDR mode to game or for content.

There is new firmware update on support page, not mentioning our issue though.
EDIT: Correction, there's no new update, it was for the 27". Latest firmware is MCM108.
