PG32UCDM: Video signal issues (White image flicker & black screens)

Hi,

I would like to point out a problem with the PG32UCDM. I have issues with the image signal on several units of the PG32UCDM. A white artifact often appears on the screen for a brief moment (one second), which I suspect, depending on the refresh rate, either only appears in the top right corner (120Hz) or the entire lower half of the screen (240Hz). Sometimes the monitors lose the signal completely for a brief moment. As soon as the signal comes back, the Dolby Vision logo appears again in the top right. I have experienced the problem with 3 PG32UCDM units (MCM105 & MCM106 firmware). The issue occurs randomly on one screen at a time. The problem occurs with the cables that came with the monitors and also when AMD FreeSync is disabled.
A Reddit user also reports he has the same issue with his unit. I have attached a picture from the Reddit user that shows the glitch. The Reddit user reports that he is experiencing glitches via HDMI1. For me, the issue occurs via DisplayPort (I rarely use HDMI, so I can't say whether the isue also occurs with my PG32UCDMs via HDMI). Both I and the Reddit user have Dolby Vision enabled. I also had the issues before the Dolby Vision update (MCM105). My PG32UCDMs are connected to an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX via DisplayPort. The Reddit user connected his PG32UCDM to an Xbox Series X via HDMI.

So I decided to get another DP cable and the flicker is gone completely for me.

Will there ever be an official answer from ASUS support?

I would like to remind that original issue appears on a video recorded on Xbox console, so no drivers or pc applications involved in this reported issue with this monitor…

Brother I recommend you the one with the RT 7900 change your cable. There’s a DP80 cable by Silkland on amazon that resolved my issue. The xbox bug other user reported I can’t speak on that I have a PS5 Pro and I experience no such issues with Dolby Vision enabled which I don’t even think ps5 pro supports but it still doesn’t give me any flicker whatsoever.

The bug is there when you activate Dolby vision on both console AND monitor, so how would a console without Dolby vision demonstrate that the issue is solved with a cable???

I repeat myself, topic is going out of focus mixing other issues with the original one.

and by the way I am not using DP cable but HDMI 8k certified cable, and issue is there even when using a DP cable

For the PS5 Pro I use a 8K/10K certified HDMI 2.1. You’re the one mixing up. The DP80 I mentioned above instantly stopped any and all flickering on windows with hdr and dolby vision enable I gave a recommendation since you are the one using PC with a RT 7900. Mentioned I could not replicate the issue on my PS5 Pro knowing it does not support dolby vision. Giving recommendations that’s all.

Hi,

Do you have any news on the white static noise issue? The problem occurs with all 3 of my PG32UCDMs.

I've now run all three of my PG32UCDM monitors with the MCM108 and explicitly selected HDR10 as the HDR mode in the OSD menu for a week. The static noise and black screens are significantly reduced, or almost non-existent. Apparently Dolby Vision doesn't seem to trigger the problem but rather significantly increases it.

Try updating the firmware and turning off Dolby Vision to see if it fixes the flickering and black screen. Also, check your cables, try different refresh rates, and turn off VRR/G-SYNC.

I've already tried several cables (HDMI & DisplayPort, both the ASUS supplied cables and third-party cables).

Disabling VRR / AMD FreeSync didn't help (I can't test G-SYNC because I don't currently have a suitable NVIDIA card).

Different refresh rates changed the flickering: 240Hz (the bottom half of the screen flickers), 120Hz (only the top right corner flickers).

Disabling Dolby Vision solved the problem. Since then, I haven't had any black screens or flickering. It's important to explicitly set HDR mode to HDR10 in the OSD.

I strongly suspect this is a firmware bug related to Dolby Vision.
