PG32UCDM: Video signal issues (White image flicker & black screens)

Hi,

I would like to point out a problem with the PG32UCDM. I have issues with the image signal on several units of the PG32UCDM. A white artifact often appears on the screen for a brief moment (one second), which I suspect, depending on the refresh rate, either only appears in the top right corner (120Hz) or the entire lower half of the screen (240Hz). Sometimes the monitors lose the signal completely for a brief moment. As soon as the signal comes back, the Dolby Vision logo appears again in the top right. I have experienced the problem with 3 PG32UCDM units (MCM105 & MCM106 firmware). The issue occurs randomly on one screen at a time. The problem occurs with the cables that came with the monitors and also when AMD FreeSync is disabled.
A Reddit user also reports he has the same issue with his unit. I have attached a picture from the Reddit user that shows the glitch. The Reddit user reports that he is experiencing glitches via HDMI1. For me, the issue occurs via DisplayPort (I rarely use HDMI, so I can't say whether the isue also occurs with my PG32UCDMs via HDMI). Both I and the Reddit user have Dolby Vision enabled. I also had the issues before the Dolby Vision update (MCM105). My PG32UCDMs are connected to an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX via DisplayPort. The Reddit user connected his PG32UCDM to an Xbox Series X via HDMI.

looks like the megathread for this issue is here: PG32UCDM black screen during game sessions!!. We should probably contribute there.

That thread seems unrelated to the dolby vision bug discussed here. Dolby vision was added at a later date so definitely unrelated to that discussion.

I think it's the same issue. Whether I use dolby or HDR10, I get screen flickering followed by black screen. Sometimes its a white line flickering, sometimes its a big block of static like depicted in the screenshots above.

Suspecting my issue is unrelated to that. This bug for me only became present when dolby vision was added in a firmware update. Dolby vision logo appears in top right anytime a windows browser is in full screen mode and continuously loops. I will try to upload a video here later it possible. Either way there was issues that need to be addressed. This occurs with DP connections or hdmi. XPS 8950 AMD Radeon RX6600XT. Windows 11.

i think this is fireware bug,

i just got my montior from rma, but issue still there

in my case, switch dobly vission, even watch SDR video and turn off windows HDR,still happen

however, switch HDR10 there are no problem

Correct this is only with Dolby Vision Enabled. HDR10 does not cause this behavior at least for me.

Update to my previous post. Apparently I was unaware the issue with Dolby Vision is on the Windows side. It is not compatible with Windows (yet) at least not natively. Someone commented on my youtube video and I started doing research and theres pages upon pages regarding dolby vision and windows. Bummer

Hi,

Windows generally are SDR but they are capable to handle HDR and Dolby Vision content through various apps, for example I can watch DV on Netflix on Windows Edge based app on the same monitor.
Do you have Dolby Access installed on your PC?
I have that issue in the picture that occurs for just a flash but not the issue you showing on your video, it must be something else.

Interesting. I do not have that installed well I’m not sure will boot up now and check and will also test Dolby Vision on edge viewing netflix

Check on this reddit link for more detailed instructions on DV setup
