PG32UCDM - Proximity sensor "stand-by" the monitor even though I'm exactly in front of it

Never had a problem with the proximity sensor, until a couple of days ago. As written in the title, the sensor makes the monitor's screen black even if I am exactly in front of the monitor, even while playing a videogame! And it turns it off too fast too. I mean, setting the sensor to “Low” should pass 5 minutes? Instead just a couple of them go by

To turn the monitor back on, I literally have to wave my hand an inch from the sensor

- This problem was happening with version 105. I upgraded to 108 and the problem persists

- Connected via HDMI. Tried changing ports and cables, but nothing

- I reset the monitor to factory settings and the problem persists!

I honestly don't know what to do to prevent burn-in.... because the problem didn't end there. Indeed, if I turn off the monitor manually via its button, or via windows power saving settings, while the computer remains on (not in standby)... when I want to turn the monitor back on, it often doesn't work and I am forced to reboot the pc

I'm sorry to say this, but this monitor is giving me a lot of trouble!

Hi @Luca23 ,

we sincerely apologize for the delayed response due to the recent holiday.

Based on your description, we recommend that you send the monitor to a nearby official service center, where an engineer can inspect the device and provide further assistance. https://www.asus.com/support/service-center-location

Thank you for your understanding and support. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out.

Yo lmk if you figure it out. Have mine on low setting but never worked on 105. Upgraded to 108 and it was working flawlessly up until yesterday. It doesn’t detect me unless I wave my hand a few inches away. I didn’t mess with anything either it’s so weird

Hi @Andeez ,

thank you for reaching out.
You can manually adjust the Proximity Sensor detection range between 50 cm and 110 cm.
May we confirm if your Sensitivity setting is set to High?
Kindly check and let us know. Thank you!

Thank you for the information. It does make sense because QD-Oled is better in a dark environment and if you are wearing black it might cause issues. But I’m so close to the monitor that I thought that it wouldn’t be a problem. I’ll try using it on High.

I have my monitor since March last year but never tried the proximity sensor until now. I’m having the same issue. I thought it was a cable or video problem but after moving my hand next to the sensor the monitor went on again. I’m seated really close to the monitor and was using the sensor with “low”. I didn’t try any workaround just disabled it.
I do the same as you and turn the monitor off and on when I want to use the Pc again. I don’t need to reboot the computer but it gives me some work to turn it on as well. I’m using it with HDMI. I need to turn the monitor off and on and try to access the menu to see if it goes on.

I'm testing the sensor in high and so far so good. No problems so far.

I noticed that the monitor has a hard time to turn on again when it goes to standby mode and the ASUS logo change to orange and even pressing all the keyboard keys it didn't work and I have to turn the monitor off and on again and try to access the monitor menu to be able to turn it on.

Another testing that I am doing is, I had my windows settings to turning off the monitor after 15 minutes and now I changed it to OFF and I'm using the sensor in High. I'm not having the same problem because the ASUS logo doesn't go to standby orange and it remains red. So when I seat in front of the monitor it works fine.

@jaderaso if my feedback can be useful, in my case, switching from high to low didn't change anything. Up until just before I wrote this thread, every option worked perfectly (switching from low to high only changed the minutes before shutdown when I walked away from the screen)... all of a sudden, however, with any option the screen would turn off even when I was at the computer

The screen is always in the same place, the brightness conditions of the room had not changed. My clothes are always black/dark

Regarding the second problem... well, I had it too. When the screen went to standby, it had big problems in turning on again, and I was forced to restart the pc

Sorry to hear that. It's kind of frustrating.

Have you tried turning off the sensor to see if it stops?

Have you changed your Windows settings to: Turn off my display after "Never"?

I was reading another thread and someone was saying they were only having this issue with HDMI.

I didn't try DisplayPort because I changed my Windows settings to not turn off my monitor and that worked for me.

Sometimes I just turn off the monitor because with the new firmware you can check when the monitor last did a pixel refresh and turning it off does that automatically.

Hi @Luca23 ,

Thank you for your inquiry.

To better understand the display black screen issue you are experiencing, please provide us with the following information and perform the tests:

  1. Proximity sensor test: Have you tried turning off the Proximity sensor function? If not, please turn off this function first and confirm whether the problem still occurs.
  2. Background sound confirmation: When the black screen occurs, does the background sound (such as game sound, music, etc.) continue to run?
  3. Indicator light color confirmation: When the black screen occurs, what color is the display's indicator light?

Please kindly confirm the above information so that we can determine whether the problem is caused by the Proximity sensor.

Thank you for your cooperation.
