PG32UCDM Console Mode HDR issue

My and other's PG32UCDM monitors have a clipping issue on PC when using the console HDR mode in Windows 11. Currently, the monitor clips at 450 nits in the Maximum Luminance window but it clips correctly in the Max Full Frame Luminance window. Is there a firmware update in the works for this or is this an RMA issue?

Having had my PG32UCDM for a few days now my vote is for a mode in-between the firmware 103 console HDR and trueblack 400. Trueblack 400 is brighter than I need and console HDR is just a bit dim in something with a higher APL like horizon forbidden west.

I feel like a mode with 600-700 nit highlights with an APL between the two would be perfect to give a bit more brightness without destroying the dynamic range of the scene and highlights. With all 3 modes everyone would have a choice of whatever they prefer based on the panel limits.

Also regarding the discussion about leaving the monitor in HDR all the time. I always use mine in HDR and that won't change since it takes a good 15-30 seconds to swap out of it due to my multiple monitors. However the bad gamma curve makes things look terrible so you do really need the advanced colour profiles from that github project. This does mean you would need to swap back to your windows HDR calibration profile for any HDR things that aren't auto-HDR so I made a script to at least somewhat automate this: https://github.com/jtmzac/Auto-HDR-Colour-Profile-Switcher
Forewarning however, its not very user friendly. You need to find the right registry keys for your monitor since it will vary and you need to manually whitelist everything you want to use the proper HDR profile with.

Just use RTX HDR for web and media players, I never had to go back to SDR ever again, permanently on HDR mode now. 

You nailed it. RTX HDR is a game changer IMO and there is no need to go back to SDR in windows now. 

Mind telling us how it works? I just installed the nee nvidia app and I’m not sure how to proceed. Do I toggle HDR on in windows, then toggle it on in nvidia app?

HDR ON in Windows (Windows 11 preferably).
Nvidia Control -> Adjust Video Image Settings (tab on left side) -> Tick RTX video enhancement (tick all of them).
 
For games, it's easier to just watch a tutorial on how to do it. 

But that does only help for Videos (and games), but it changes not the weird looking sRGB gamma in all other SDR stuff xD.

But yeah i agree i let hdr active every time, on fw 103 (fw104 i still dont like)

So keep it to yourself. Stop making this entire thread about you. YOUR problem is YOUR problem with the fw and people like you complain about everything doesnt matter how  things are. Most of us want to learn something from experience of other users and to be up to date with the fw not to listen what problems you have.

I was one of those who always said that I was quite happy with the PG32UCDM and its HDR.
The 104 and the clipping are a worsening improvement for me (and some others too)! and I hope that my feedback here will at least encourage Asus to think about it and, if necessary, come up with something that will satisfy both sides in future firmwares.
e.g. with additional HDR modes,
or maybe they can also solve the “clipping” problem.

but don't tell me I'm complaining about everything, although I've always defended Asus up until FW103!

Unless you really want super accurate icons or thumbnails on your desktop/web browsing then it doesn't really matter. If you are doing colour critical work then you already know what you are doing anyway by sticking in SDR mode with a colorimeter. 

Most people use dark mode when web browsing with an extension which throws colour accuracy of web pages out. I have everything in dark grey background with white text, this includes reddit, forums, excel and word documents, etc. 

RTX HDR also works on media players such as VLC and MPC-BC (with a plugin)

I would normally agree since colour accuracy tends to be something most people don't notice but the very raised blacks due to windows using the wrong gamma curve is quite obvious. Its why SDR content looks washed out in HDR. Even more so when you use dark mode since its the dark colours it affects. It is up to you at the end of the day, some people just won't notice it and there's nothing wrong with that.

The massive problem with RTX HDR is it doesn't work with multiple monitors. Even once it does its not clear if it will work with a mix of HDR and non-HDR monitors which is what my setup is.
