PG32UCDM Console Mode HDR issue

FallenDeity

My and other's PG32UCDM monitors have a clipping issue on PC when using the console HDR mode in Windows 11. Currently, the monitor clips at 450 nits in the Maximum Luminance window but it clips correctly in the Max Full Frame Luminance window. Is there a firmware update in the works for this or is this an RMA issue?

@Kundica Why are you defending Asus at all costs? Nobody cares about technical calculations and a million pseudo-tests that have no connection with reality.

The fact is that in 1000 nit mode (Asus Consol mode), Dell and MSI are 2 times brighter than Asus in bright scenes.

Nobody, including myself, is arguing that other monitors aren't operating differently. It's just that I refuse to make any claims without verification, and testing is how one verifies what's actually happening, rather than speculating. And with that, I'm not defending Asus, I'm just pointing out some basic stuff about HDR that doesn't seem to be understood.

On reddit :

https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/1bnni9u/pg32ucdm_hdr_brightness_issue_tested_showcased...

Someone who has both Monitors side by side (Asus and MSI) mentioned, that both monitors behave similarly.

And the MSI is not brighter at all...

I dont know what to believe.

I just go playing some games and enjoying my Pg32UCDM! I realy love this thing. And for me in my eyes HDR looks fantastic 90% of the time.

Keep it civil and less emotional, please. What @Kundica is saying is right regarding ABL, nobody is disputing that different panels with different firmware may behave differently / desirably.

Not with emotion, just mentioning this issue, hoping Asus can take it seriously, after all, I spent so much money on this monitor

Here's the HWUnboxed review of the MSI MPG 321URX, where he also showcased the discrepancy in brightness between that monitor and the PG32UCDM.

387 vs 230 nits in his test measurement.

Yup. The issue is the abnormally dim full screen brightness with real HDR scenes--NOT ABL-induced dimming with SDR on the desktop, which is consistent across other displays using this panel: https://tftcentral.co.uk/articles/testing-hdr400-true-black-and-peak-1000-mode-brightness-on-new-ole...

But, I'm sure we will still get certain actors trying to muddy the waters with speculation about this is just how ABL works in a high APL scene🙄

@Richu6 Yes, I saw this topic. And the same Asus defenders flocked there as here. They are the same, but only in True Black mode 🙂 I also had an MSI and in 1000 nit mode it was brighter than the Asus in Console mode. Think about it, if it were otherwise, why would I write about it? 🙂

I have a PG27AQDM and even it is much brighter in HDR 🙂

Ugh... this whole "Asus defenders" thing is so annoying.
Stop feeling attacked just because people are trying to understand the problem or make sense of it.

How is anyone in here "defending Asus", this is not a war lol...

It is true that some things about this are confusing, it's not a simple "this display is brighter and this one is dimmer" problem.
We will surely soon get an explanation as to why this is happening, or in the best case just a fix / new firmware.

I am pretty sure that Asus already knows about it if there is such a big problem.
I mean... these guys actually build displays, you know?
I dare to say that most of us in here are just laypeople if it comes to this, picking bits up here and there.

But you'll probably interpret this as me "defending" Asus, right?
Oh man...

Personally I love what the display can do already, but I am certainly looking forward to any improvements.
I feel this is a much more relaxed approach, compared to always being angry about everything.
This is not about "ignoring the problem" or "not caring about the problem" and definitely not defending anyone.

Some people like me are fed up with these expensive "test products" we pay good money we expect the best.

I bought this monitor because i was getting sick ofCoolermaster, how they handle communication to the costumers.

I had a CM miniled that was an awesome screen, but the firmware sucked so ****** bad it was not fun at all. Black screen after black screen switching from SDR to HDR and countless other problems. Guess what? They never fixed it. No communication just nothing, they will never fix it im sure of it.

Was getting tired fiddling around with that ****** monitor day in day out, so i bought me a 1500$ Asus PG32UCDM so i don't have to deal with that crap anymore.

Guess what, now i have crap with this monitor in HDR good times!
